XVIII. Thoughts

It's been two weeks since I moved in with the Kasdans. Surprisingly enough, Juliet was more of a fun aunt than the strict mother I expected. Michael is a super genius when it comes to finding fun ways to teach the things I needed to learn and Alex had become like my best friend since Day 1. We stayed up late most nights goofing around and occasionally I would hang out on her bed with her while she played on her Xbox. Those times were more entertaining than you'd expect. She was pretty good at multi tasking and I was pretty good at eating a bunch of junk food and making fun of her. Viola and Daniel took turns visiting, Viola on Tuesdays and Daniel on Thursdays. I assumed they were staying at the little cottage where they took me to meet the Kasdans.

"Damn it, Adri. Get your bra off of my bed." Alex chucked my bra at me, laughing and flopping down on her bed. I stuck my tongue out at her and tossed it in my laundry basket. I shoved her over and laid down next to her, too lazy to climb up on my own bed. She made an annoyed sound, but made room for me anyways.

"So, what shenanigans are we going to get into tomorrow?" I didn't bother looking over at her, just continued to stare at the space above me. The tv was playing in the background, but I ignored it, not at all entertained by the lame commercial playing.

"School." She huffed. My eyebrows shot up and I looked over at her, raising an eyebrow. I had been here for two weeks and she hadn't attended school, so I assumed she didn't.

"The first week I took off to show you around and the past week has been spring break. They enrolled you at my school. You get to go back to learning stupid crap." She looked over at me and I groaned, making a face.

"How am I supposed to 'train' and whatnot?" I raised an eye, trying to find a loophole to this catastrophe.

"Same way I do. Go to school like a normal kid, come home, do homework, go train. We train for about two to three hours a day." She flipped over on her stomach and put her head down in her arms. I sighed and glanced at the clock.

"Why didn't anyone tell me until right now?" I pouted, glaring at the bunk above me. She shrugged, her arm brushing against mine. I looked over at her and she gave me a sad smile. I decided to climb up into my own bunk, so I got up and looked down at her. "What time does school start?"

"Eight." She mumbled. I calculated time as I climbed up to my bunk. It was currently 9:30 and I would have to be up at 6:30.

"Put on the comedy channel, please," I leaned my body over the railing to look down at her and she simply handed me the remote. I happily took it and flipped it to my favorite channel, rolling over to face away from the tv.

Eventually, I fell asleep with a blanket over my face and the pillow between my legs.

"Wake the hell up, Sleeping Ugly." Alex's voice broke through whatever weird dream I was having and dragged me out of a beautiful slumber. I flipped her off and she hopped off the ladder that led up to my bed. She just rolled her eyes at me, turning away to start getting ready.

I won't lie and say I didn't watch her as she stripped her clothes. She never faced me when she did it, but I can say I have at least seen her butt and it wasn't a bad sight. Hey, I can appreciate a nice body. She's not blood related.

"Get your ass up and get dressed. You should wear the cut up shirt and shorts. Its going to be hot." When she finished putting her clothes on, she sat down in front of the open closet door, using the mirror to put make up on. I didn't usually wear make up because I much preferred the natural look, but I decided on some mascara today.

I put on the outfit Alex had suggested and pulled on a new pair of Vans. I did little things around the house to earn an allowance and let's just say Juliet and Michael are awfully generous people.

When Alex and I were completely dressed, we made our way down to the kitchen and grabbed breakfast. I ended up eating yogurt and some graham crackers and she had a bagel.

"So, how do we get there?" I followed Alex out to the front porch and turned towards her when we stopped at the end of her driveway. "Don't tell me we're walking.."

"No. Theo, my best friend, drives me to school everyday. He said it would be fine to take you, too, now." She spoke just as an old green convertible pulled up next to us. The boy sitting in the front seat was lanky with loose curly brown hair and bright green eyes. I gave him a shy smile and we climbed in the car. Alex sat up front with him and I awkwardly sat in the back middle seat.

The two of them chatted the whole time, Alex occasionally stopping to explain to me who certain people were. I would be lying if I said I paid any attention to a word she said. Eventually we pulled into the parking lot and I let out a relieved breath when I saw that the school wasn't very big. Classes would be easier to find and there would be less people to socialize with.

"We'll go with you to the office to get your schedule." Alex grabbed my wrist and pulled me towards a door in the front next to the large gates. We went into the office and she walked straight up to the counter.

"We're here to pick up the schedule and any other information for Adriette.." She turned towards me, giving me a questioning look. I faintly recalled Viola telling me that I would be known by the Kasdans' last name, so I mouthed their last name to her. "Kasdan?" She motioned for me to come stand beside her. The lady at the front desk began shuffling through some papers beside her computer and pulled out a small stack paper clipped together.

"This is your schedule, school guidelines, and a school ID. We used the picture that came with your file, if that's alright with you." She gave me a small smile and I nodded, taking the papers from her with a quiet thanks.

Alex led me out of the office with Theo trailing along behind us, on his phone. We went through the front gates and she took my schedule from me.

"Hey we have two classes together. Cool." She laughed and handed me my schedule back, "Two others are right next to each other. Your sixth period is on the opposite side of campus, though." She started walking me towards a section of lockers and I assumed we were going to hers.

"If you want, we can share a locker. Otherwise, you have to go apply for one." She shrugged as she placed her belongings in her locker, only grabbing a single book. I nodded, keeping my bag on my shoulder.

"Yeah, I'll share with you. What classes do we have together?" I glanced down at my schedule, reading through it again.

"Um, first and fourth." She looked at my paper again to make sure. Nodding, she shut her locker. "The only one that's not far or near is 2nd. You and Theo have PE together, so he can show you. My class is, like, down the hall." We began walking down the hall and I noticed Theo had disappeared.

"Where'd he go?" I glanced around, trying to spot the boy I had just met.

"He went to his locker. He's a senior so its in the next hall. He meets up with me after first, so its okay." She opened a door to our left and ushered me in. I chewed on my lip, looking around. I was hoping I would enjoy this class because it was English, but I have a history of not getting along with English teachers.

When my new first period teacher began to speak, I could already feel that this class wouldn't be my favorite.
