As my eyes went into focus after sleeping for only three hours all I could think about was that kiss with Daryl Dixon. Did he mean it? Or did he just do it to prove some sort of point? We didn’t speak at all when we got back to the camp yesterday, we didn’t even acknowledge each other. “We’re going out for a supply run, we’ll be back in a few hours.” Rick said placing his gun on his belt. “Can I come with?” I asked. He looked at me then looked around the camp. “I guess I can take you along if I keep Maggie, Glenn and Carol here.” I stared at him as he pondered weather or not to allow me to tag along with him, Daryl and Michonne. I thought of this as an opportunity to speak to Daryl finally to sort out what happened between the two of us. “Ok, come on.” He responded after moments of thinking.
As we were on the supply run, Rick wanted to divide us into two groups to look for food and water and anything else we might need. “Ok, we’ll divide into two groups so we can find more supplies and anything we could use that might be helpful for the camp. Don’t take any major risks and watch your back. Daryl, Michonne you two go together and head north, Andy and I will head south.” I paused for a moment in doubt. I wanted to go with Daryl on this supply run but I guess what Rick says goes and I don’t want to argue with that. “Where will we meet up?” Michonne questioned.
“Here. We’ll meet right here in about an hour and a half then we’ll go from there…” Rick answered putting a few rocks on the road. I looked down and watched as he placed the last rock down then glanced at Daryl to find him staring at me. I looked away quickly to find my back turn and myself heading in the south direction. “Well, good luck.” Rick said then started to walk by my side.
“I think if we head that way then we could find some possible corner stores and that could mean food and water.” Rick said pointing in the direction of a small town. “Mhm.” I said quietly. He looked at me then started to say, “Something wrong?” He asked.
“No, not at all.” I responded immediately. He laughed then we continued on.
“So what’s your story Rick Grimes?” I asked. He looked at me then took a deep breath.
“Uh, what do you mean? Or should I say where should I start…” He responded. I thought for a minute as to what questions I could ask. “Where were you when this started?” I asked.
“Woke up in a hospital, didn’t know what happened all I remember was getting shot then apparently ending up in a coma.” He said, and then continued. “Met a man, he was loyal. Told me everything about this whole thing. I went out and tried to find my family, my wife and son. Glenn found me in a tank about to be hoarded by walkers then he saved me. He took me back to his camp that’s where I found my wife, Lori and my son, Carl.”
“What happened to them? If you don’t mind my asking…” I questioned.
“Well, Lori and my best friend Shane had an affair while I was ‘dead’ and Lori confessed but I never forgot about it. Shane and I were never the same after I came back from the dead. He became evil and hurt. Wasn’t the Shane I once knew. Anyway, our group found a farm and that’s where I killed Shane. Self defence of course, but it was so goddamn hard. We found a prison and by then Lori had changed, we just didn’t show the love we once had anymore.”
“Did she…?” I started to say.
““Carl and her left the group a few weeks before we found you. I tried to find them, but I just couldn’t. We just had to move on. I couldn’t put everyone else’s life after them.” He finished.
“I hope they come back.” I said. “Look Rick, the camp is going to get overrun one day and we need to be ready. We need to find a new –” I stopped after I heard a car driving along the road. Rick ran over to the long grass where we were invisible to anything that could have gone passed. “Stay down.” He said. “The corner shops are just over there. Hopefully they don’t stop to gather supplies as well.” He stated. The large truck vehicle stopped on a few metres away from us and three men got out of the car holding large semi-automatic guns. “Shh.” Rick hushed. The men passed us and then headed towards the corner shops. “Ok, we have to get out of here. Maybe run around the back of one of those shops and hide at least until they leave.” Rick said.
“Why do we need to hide from them? They could help us.” I responded.
Rick looked at me then went to speak, “Well, well, well. Look who we have here.” Rick put his gun down then immediately you could tell he knew his man placing a gun at him. “Merle Dixon.” Rick said. Then standing up and facing him. “Merle!” Another male voice yelled from the distance. The three men approached us. “Over here!” Merle said laughing.
“We’ve got company.”
