I woke up and was in the back of a large truck somewhat the same size as the one that had passed me before I blacked out. I could hardly remember anything else from there except hearing gunshots and that familiar voice that I swear was my older sister Maggie. “You’re safe now. Just get some rest.” I looked up after I finally got my vision back and clear. “Maggie?” I smiled as she looked back at me, I couldn’t believe my own eyes. “Am I dreaming?” I felt my heart racing and for the first time in months, I felt safe. “No, silly.” She said giggling. I giggled back looked around then saw we were on the road and moving. Maggie was holding me tight and my head was placed on her shoulder. “Where abouts are we heading? And who are we with?” I asked. She hushed me then said, “Go back to sleep and I’ll explain it all when you wake up.” I closed my eyes and I only heard the sound of the wheels on the road.

I woke up and I felt refreshed and rejuvenated. I quickly stood up and looked around to find myself in a small apartment and heard loud talking in another room. “Oh good, you’re awake.” A deep male voice said. I looked around searching for Maggie then found her standing next to a man who looked to be about late thirties. “We we’re worried. Thought you were never going to wake up again.” He spoke again.

“Andy, do you know how long you were asleep for?” Maggie said. I looked out the window where my bed was placed looking out into the city of Atlanta where we were a good twenty-five metres from the ground. “Uh, I don’t know. Six hours? Maybe.” I answered. I rubbed my eyes then stood up on my two legs but immediately sat down after they started to shake and wobble. “No, two days.” Maggie said. She looked at the man standing next to her who had his hand on his .357 magnum and starring at me. “You aren’t planning to use that one me are you?” I said to him. He starred at me for a little longer then replied. “No, no. It’s just a habit of mine.” He answered then continued to speak, “My name is Rick Grimes.” He said. The name seemed familiar; I went to speak then was interrupted. “Andy, Rick was apart of the Sherriff’s Department and worked with dad.” I paused then had a sudden flashback of the last time I saw my father. “Where is dad?” Maggie said. I looked out the window then looked back at Maggie. “I’ll leave you two alone.” Rick said walking away.

“We were on the road for so long. Mum was bit when we left the house and came for you, but you weren’t there,” Maggie’s eyes filled with tears, I imagine what the news would feel like and especially in this horrible time. “Dad and I were on the road for months alone after that and I became skilful of the weapons around me… then one day I woke up and he came back from a supply run. He was running then suddenly one of those infected things grabbed him, like they did with mum and bit his arm.” I took a deep breath then continued, “I managed to get him somewhere high up and safe and within a few hours he got sick. He turned pale then just died. I shot him before he could turn, though.” Maggie sat down on the sofa behind her then and processed the information I gave her. “Maggie, we have to go on the supply run soon.” A female voice said. “Hi. You must be the famous Andy.” A middle aged woman greeted me, “My name is Carol.” I smiled at her then stood up. “Hello.” I said.

Maggie and Carol left for the supply run after giving me the lowdown on how they got here. I searched around the apartment then bumped into new faces in the kitchen. “You hungry?” I looked at a man who had dark long hair and was making wooden arrows for his crossbow. “I said, you hungry?” He asked again after I didn’t respond. “Uh, yeah sure. Thank you.” I said. He handed me a piece of bread as I took a seat in front of him. “The name’s Daryl. You’re Maggie’s sister, yeah?” He asked. He seemed like a nice guy, but someone that you wouldn’t want to piss off. “Yeah I am.” I watched him for a moment for I haven’t ever felt the way I feel right now for someone the first time I see them. “So what’s your story?” I asked him. “I don’t have a story.” He said. I stood up then started to walk away as I felt Daryl wasn’t into talking. “Where you going?” he asked. I looked back at him then was bumped into another person, “Sorry,” A man said. “You’re Andy! Maggie’s sister?” He asked. A lot of people have asked me this today and honestly I am getting really frustrating with continuously telling people that I am. “Yeah.” I answered. “I’m Glenn. I’m Maggie’s husband.” He stated. I guess she forgot to leave that part out. “Oh, wow. She didn’t say anything about getting married.” I said. He looked at me blankly then said; “I guess it’s not the first thing you tell someone after a year of not seeing each other.” He chuckled. I laughed a bit then looked back to find Daryl still eating his second sandwich. “I see you’ve already met Daryl.” Glenn said. “Yeah, but I was just leaving. Maybe go meet someone else around here. How many of there are you in the group?” I asked. “Seven, now.” Daryl said continuing to eat his sandwich. “You don’t speak much do you?” I asked Daryl. He looked at me, stood up then came face to face with me only about 5 centimetres away. “Only to people I trust.”

“Can you trust me?” I questioned. He was a real intimidating being, he seems like your average asshole jerk who doesn’t let a lot of people into his mind but deep down is lonely and wants a good friend by his side. “I’m still trying to figure you out.” He stepped back, picked up his crossbow then walked out the door.
