On the 1st of October 1989, 43 children were born to women who hadn't been pregnant when the day began.
A man named Reginald Hardgreeves made it his mission to adopt as many of these children as he could.
He got 10. 5 girls and 5 boys.
As the children grew they developed their unique super powers.
Only Vanya, number Seven, was born without powers. This meant that she could never join in when her siblings went on missions to save the world.
Reginald called the team, The Umbrella Academy.
Number Five disappeared not long after their very first mission, never to be seen again.
Several years later, Ben, number Six is killed on a mission. And that is the last time that Lucy, number Ten is ever sent on a mission, as she was responsible for his death.
After Ben's death the team begins to divide.
Not long later Yasmin, number Eight gets herself killed trying to gain more power.
And just before their 18th birthday, Ella, number Nine drinks herself to death.
This was the last straw for the family, and The Umbrella Academy officially disbanded.
Lucy remains the only sibling to live full time in their family home, because her father won't let her leave, in case she gets herself killed.
She doesn't think that she will ever see her family together again.
But when she wakes up one morning, and finds that her father is dead everything changes.
All of her siblings begin to make their way home for the first time in years.
However, having the family back together isn't quite as good and harmonious as Lucy had expected it to be.
