Jail break

Stepping outside the house by herself for the first time in years, was very frightening for Lucy. But she knew that she had no choice.
If they wanted to save the world, they would need Diego, so she had to break him out of jail.
Since she couldn't drive, she had to call a taxi to take her down to the police station.
After paying the driver, Lucy exited the cab and walked slowly towards the station.
As kids, the police had always been on their side, but now Diego was rotting inside a cell, and it was up to Lucy to get him out.

Once she had explained her business to the officer at reception she was escorted into a side room to be questioned by the detective on Patch's case.
Lucy had never been interrogated by the police before, so her palms were sweating nervously, as she waited for a detective to arrive.
"Sorry for keeping you waiting, my name is detective Harrison" introduced the policeman.
"Lucy Hargreeves" mumbled Lucy.
"I hear that you're here to provide Diego Hargreeves with an alibi"
"Yes. My brother Diego, was with me at the time Eudora Patch was murdered, so I know that he didn't kill her"
"There is a lot of evidence against Diego, as his prints were found at the scene".

"If his DNA was found on Patch, then that shouldn't be surprising, since they were kind of an item" admitted Lucy.
"I didn't think that they were dating anymore" replied Harrison.
"They weren't, but they were still spending a lot of time together recently, trying to solve these strange crimes that have happened over the past few days"
"What do you know about these crimes?"
"Only what I saw on TV. Diego isn't one to spread gossip about a police investigation. But it can't be a coincidence that the person investigating these crimes ends up dead".

"Look, I understand that you want to defend your brother. But him and Patch had a history, and we all know that he has a bad temper when things dont go his way" admitted Harrison.
"I'm not denying that he has a temper, but he's not a killer. From what I've heard, he loved Patch, he wouldn't have harmed a hair on her head. Besides, I know that she was shot, and my brother doesn't use guns. He used to say that real men use knives. If you know anything about Diego, then you must know that he has an obsession with knives" replied Lucy.
"Which is why he wouldn't have been so stupid to kill her with a knife".

"We're going round in circles here. I'm telling you that my brother was with me at the time of her death, so he can't have commited this crime. And if he has an alibi then you can't charge him" announced Lucy.
"An alibi from a family member isn't exactly the most reliable thing in the world" replied Harrison.
"So my word isn't good enough for you?"
"I didn't say that. I've got your statement on record. So it will be brought up during the court case, but it's not enough for me to let him walk out of here today"
"Great. Thanks for nothing".

Lucy stormed out of the room angrily, as she had tried to do things legally, and it had backfired in her face.
She didn't want to break the law, but if they were all going to die in 2 days anyway, she didn't see the point in obeying the rules.
After finding a seat outside of the police station, Lucy closed her eyes and projected her consciousness back inside the building.
She made her way into the part of the station where the cells were and approached the desk where the security camera screens and keys were kept.
A large security guard was sat at the desk, and Lucy prepared herself to do something that she hadn't done in years.

Lucy stepped inside the man, temporarily taking over his body.
She used him to unlock all the necessary doors, before taking the key to Diego's cell off the wall, and making her way towards the cells.
She hated using possession, as it made her feel horrible and she was always very uncomfortable doing it.
Depending on how much the person fought her, she could stay inside them for several minutes, or even up to an hour.
But since she hadn't done it in years, she was a little out of practice.

When she reached Diego's cell, she couldn't help but smile when she saw him, which made him frown at her.
"What are you doing?" Questioned Diego as Lucy began unlocking his cage.
"Don't freak out Diego, but it's actually me, Lucy. I've taken over this guy to get you out of here, but I'm actually sitting outside the building" admitted Lucy.
"Prove it" ordered Diego.
"We don't really have time-"
"Prove it"
"O.K, fine. Umm... You once told Klaus that licking a light bulb would give him pubes, and I remember it not ending well for him. I also know that you despise me, because of what happened to Ben. Is that enough for you? It had better be, because I can't stay inside this guy much longer".

Diego ran forward and stepped out of his cell.
"I didn't think that you could still do this" he admitted, as they made their way out of the cell block.
"I don't like doing this. But I thought it was the only way of getting you out of here" replied Lucy.
"You came by yourself?" Questioned Diego.
"Yes. Now hurry up, and stick by my side"
"Do you actually have a plan?"
"Um, not exactly. I'm sort of making it up as I go along"
"Good to know".

When they reached the side entrance, Lucy let Diego out, before locking the door with her still inside, so that the guard wouldn't be able to follow them.
She then handcuffed herself to a nearby railing, before exiting the guards body, and returning to her own.
When she opened her eyes she found Diego sitting next to her.
"Well, that worked out better than I thought" admitted Lucy as she jumped to her feet.
"Maybe, but they'll be looking for me, the second they realise I've escaped" replied Diego.
"Yeah, I know. Which is why we need to get back to the Academy as soon as possible".

"I still can't believe that you came all this way for me" Diego said quietly.
"We need you. If we stand any chance at saving the world, we need to work together" admitted Lucy.
"How did you even get here?" Questioned Diego.
"I called a taxi for the first time. It was rather nerve wracking if I'm being honest"
"Have you ever even left the house by yourself before?"
"Not that I can recall, no"
"Thank you for risking coming outside, for me"
"You're welcome".

"What you said back there, about me despising you. It's not true" revealed Diego.
"Diego, we haven't exactly got time to have a deep and meaningful conversation right now" replied Lucy.
"But we might die in a few days time. And I don't want you to die, thinking that I hated you" admitted Diego.
"Well you do hate me. There's no point in denying it, just because I saved your life. I know how you feel about me"
"Look, I know we argue a lot. But you are still my sister, and I still care about you".

"Really? Well, I didn't know that caring siblings usually blamed each other for their brothers death, and put them down constantly, making them feel like shit" said Lucy coldly.
"I'm sorry for the way I treated you. I never should have blamed you for Ben's death. We were just kids at the time, so I shouldn't have put that on you" apologised Diego.
"It's too late to go back now"
"I know. But I want you to accept my apology for how I acted. I want you to forgive me"
"If I say that I forgive you, can we move on from this, and focus on saving the world?"
"Yes"
"O.K. I forgive you".
