She looked up dazed. Cassy's vision was blurred and she struggled to make out blocks of shapes looming over her. Dark figures surrounded her and the feeling of cold, crisp air trailed deathly fingers down her spine. A sea of dark greys and a wash of blue enveloped her surroundings. Blinking didn't help with her focus at all. Why couldn't she see anything? She struggled to move but it was like her mind and her body were completely unrelated. She had a strange feeling that she was being watched and a surge of pain shot through her stomach, and she jerked upwards, screaming with horror.
And then it was gone.
A warm fuzzy feeling vibrated through her and as she opened her eyes. She was in her room. "Darling, are you up yet? You'll be late for school!" That was her mom, always trying to keep her organised, huh like that was even possible. Cassy hesitantly piled out of bed and touched her stomach lightly as she walked to the bathroom, almost like she was remembering something.
The bell rang for next period and students flooded the corridors. "We have supply, want to sit by me?" said a smily, familiar face. The girl had short dark hair with a fringe that dangled over the tips of her eyelashes. A wide smile was spread across the pale girls mouth as she waited for a reply. Cassy's mind went blank. Do I know you? The short girl rolled her eyes at her puzzled face and grabbed Cassy's hand, leading her into their classroom. " I texted you last night! What happened to coming over to mine for movie night?" She looked honestly hurt but brushed it off anyway and carried on rabbiting on. Cassy's mind wandered and eventually switched off. She was sitting by the window and stared out of it and that's when she realised she was sitting next to Beth, her best friend. She had movie night every Sunday at hers and they would gossip and talk about which boy they fancied most in the films. How could she forget that?
"Cassy...? Has someone not woken up yet?" She peeled her eyes away from the window and realised that the teacher was standing right I front of her desk, clicking aggressively in her face. He was quite old, very tall and had grey stubble that stuck out like cactus pins. His eyes were a faded blue-grey and were shadowed by bags and scribbled with wrinkles. His forehead twitched at his permanent frown as he looked down at her like he was trying to burn a hole in her head. The whole class stared.
"I um... I-" she stuttered and the majority of the class howled like hyenas .
"PAY ATTENTION, Cassy!" Mr Clark spat, his face had turned purple, and he stomped his way back to the board.
"What a loser." someone smirked.
"Just ignore them," Beth said, sympathetically, "they may have perfect looks but they're all bitches!" It The words came out her mouth like a bitter after taste. Beth was normally so innocent. So that, well it Surprised her; you wouldn't have expected it at all.The bell rang and Beth pulled Cassy eagerly out the school gates. "Beth, Where are we going?"
" How about home? Duh, it's home time!" Beth stopped to looked at her with both amusement and concern. Her deep brown eyes shone in the light and her pale skin was flushed from the harsh, cold weather. "You okay?"
" Yeah I'm fine, I think" she was so confused. They had literary just came out of second period and now pupils were storming out the gates, catching buses home and meeting up with friends. "... sorry, lets go.""How was your day honey?" Her mom asked. She was chopping what looked like a vegetable, but she couldn't be sure. "Did you remember to take your medicine?" She continued. Cassy frowned.
"You know, to stop you blanking out?" She gestured with her hands and waved a knife in the air. Amateur.
"Oh of course. My meds. Yep." she remembered. Since the... since the... well she had to take medication to stop herself from blanking out and forgetting things. If she didn't take them she would get these... gaps."Hi Mrs Moore! Mmm, something smells good." Beth stepped in through the door and inhaled the cooking aroma.
"What even is that mom?" Cassy didn't trust the look of that... thing. She got ignored, her mom too busy putting together her strange concoction while Beth watched happily.
Meanwhile, Cassy crept up the stairs and up to her room to get showered. The hot water felt amazing. The relaxing fluid flowed over her smooth skin, massaging her muscles at its touch. The mass of steam lifted all her tension and all her grime was washed away.
Wrapping a towel around her curvy frame, she made her way into her room to change, feeling fresh and revitalised.Once she was dressed she sat on her bedroom floor and stared curiously at the small capsule. Inside, contained little round pills that glistened a pure white. Her medication. One thing that bothered her, was that she couldn't remember what they were for. Shouldn't she know that?
