The next day Cassy woke up to her mother on the phone. "Thankyou, Doctor.Two-thirty, yes?" Her mother's face is lined with a frown and bags sit heavily under her eyes. Cassy looks at her mom with bewilderment as her mom nods before putting the phone down.
"Who was that?" Cassy speaks up.
"Oh morning sweetie. Why dont you go and get dressed, I thought we'd have a girly day shopping." A bright smile is pasted forcefully onto her face, but Cassy just nods and smiles back at her exhausted mother.Guilt creeps in as Cassy contemplates the amount of worry and stress that she causes her mom, what with all the nighmares and blacking-out. She looks back at her mom on the stairs, to find her slumped on a chair with her head in her hands and silent sobs escaping her lips. Cassy hesitates before runing up the stairs to get ready.
After the worlds quickest shower and breakfast, Cassy is almost ready to go out and face the world. She stares at herself in the mirror, sighing at her pale complexion and boring features. Curly hair is a tangled mess around her small, freckled face and with a huff, dismisses any form of makeup what-so-ever. She is about to leave her room when she trips over an extention lead. "Shit!" She grabs frantically at her foot and hops around her room like a bafoon. She squeezes her big toe in a despirate and pathetic attempt to stop the pain. Three minutes of sheer and utter pain go by before she is able to grab her purse and phone before exiting her bedroom.Good start.
"Mom, I thought we were going shopping not to a business meeting." She jokes, a smirk finding its way onto her lips.
" I just wanted to make an effort for my special little girl, is that so bad?" Her mom pouts and they both can't help but smile at one another.
"Let's go." Cassy shuts the door begind her and tries not to think about why her mom was on the phone to her doctor earlier. It was nothing. It has to be.After at least two hours of shopping, Cassy and her mom make their way for something to eat. They headed straight for the small cafe that is tucked away off the corner of the high street. It has been their favourite place since they can remember. They are seated immediately and order their food within ten minutes. Sat at a table for two, they sink into large comfy arm chairs made of a warm, brown leather. The table has a cream coloured cloth draped over it with a small cactus in the middle of it. Small salt and pepper shakers, in the form of Bill and Ben, are also on the table. Cassy inspects them admirably before placing them carefully back in place.
" Cassy, darling I wanted to talk to you about something." Her mother begins, her smart outfit adding to her cold, serious tone of voice. She leans forwards and her glossy blue eyes take on a steely look. Cassy already knows where this is heading. It must be something to do with the phone call she had with her doctor this morning. But why now? Really?Cassy keeps quite, almost like an ivitation for her mother to proceed, and she does this time a little more softly. " I spoke to your doctor this morning, about your... nightmares." She hesitates and takes a long look at her daughter, who lifts an eyebrow at her cautious words.
"Oh?" Is all Cassy can bring herself to say. It has been quite a long time since the last time she spoke to her doctor, and she no longer takes her medicine as regularly. Things were getting better. But not anymore. No, its actually gotten a little worse, its justs Cassy tried to convince herself otherwise, but its been worrying her mom. Black-outs have become more frequent and the dreams, well thats something new all together. Before they were just about the accident but now they are a number of things.
Cassy can see past her mother's "smiles" any day.
"He would very much like to speak to you Cassy, if that is alright?" She looks at her daughter carefully. " I think it may help." She adds with a look of both love and concern. A young waitress walks over to their table with two plates of food that are steaming hot. Cassy's mom looks up at her and then takes a glance back at Cassy, obviously nervous her daughter is going to cause a scene. But to her surprise, a simple "okay," leaves her lips.
