Living in a life full of magic can be so exhilarating yet so draining. There was always a critique to it, it needed to be perfected for anyone to really comprehend fully. It was amazing, but dangerous. It required skill.

I wish I had known who my mother was in the slightest. Just a name. I was told everything about my father since I could comprehend words. But no one.. no one but Sirius, my father- himself knew who my mother was. Whether she was dead or alive, I couldn't be sure. Of course I wouldn't mind meeting my birth giver, if she was alive, and if I had gotten a chance to do so, I would probably spit in her face for abandoning me if that was the case.

I guess it was alright now. The pure blood family I currently reside with- the Fenburgs, they were quite nice and treated me fairly well. I always felt like a guest in her house but it was a place to stay; I wasn't complaining. They did raise me.

I knew no other Black other than my father, but from the venom our name seems to spit, I was going too bring something better to the table. A name that everyone will remember and admire. I smile to myself as I look around my room. We lived about 10 miles outside of Diagon Alley and given the shape that town was in, this house definitely redeemed itself.

I keep getting lost in my thoughts. I realize this as soon as I hear Serena Fenburg, my temporary or "adopted" mother yell for me.

"Emerald, you have about 20 minutes to be packed and ready before we leave! We cannot, and I repeat, cannot be late to 9 3/4 and the train. This is Hogwarts we are talking about, so chop chop child!" I heard her clap and grunt.

I then can't help but chuckle to myself, Serena was like the fashionable mom. You could go shopping with her without having to worry about her pulling out a pair of khakis and calling them cute. Even though she is my adopted mother, I always refer to her as 'Mum' for the purpose of her always acting like one towards me, and gifting me the best necessities in life.

Oh there I go again.. did I mention this is going to be my first year at Hogwarts?

My father specifically left a letter in Mum's name for her to open when I were to turn 11. He wanted me to live a normal witch, find a fulfilling job in life, and be happy with my true nature and given talents. I was doing this purely for him. I could care less about Hogwarts, I just needed a change of environment. Maybe I will come to warm up to it in time, but I was going right now for the reason in proving myself to everyone in that school.

Sirius was sorted into Gryffindor. Funny thing was, I did not want to be one simply for the fact that my father was one. I wonder what house my blood mother was sorted into? I know Serena claimed she was Slytherin along with my adoptive father, Greg Frenburg. Typical.

I shake my head as I shove the bear necessities into my suitcase. We will have uniforms there, so I would pack a few changes of normal clothes I guess and some other things. I stare at the black quill and grey notebook besides my bed, standing on my nightstand as if it were yelling at me to take me with. To record my journeys and frustrations.

I grab them as I roll my eyes and shove them into my suitcase. Just as I was closing up, I hear a slam. As I jump and look behind me, I see it was Ebony; my owl. She was as black as night, with yellow eyes and she had white specks throughout her coat of feathers. I sigh in relief and glance at the bird cage that lay right under my window seat. I grab it as she hobbles in, ready to go. I put her on the bed. I will have Mum or Dad use their magic to transport them into the carriage, I could not simply carry them on my own. I could not wait to learn magic and get rid of the muggle way of doing things, especially simple and boring tasks.

I run downstairs, my feet coming to a sudden halt as I see my reflection in the hallway mirror. The gold encrusted oval caught every aspect of my face. I had my back length hair which was about as light as snow, my eyes stood a vivid green complimenting my name. Light brown freckles had littered my nose and under my eyes. The fullness of my lips and my petite nose with a slight bump. I wonder if I had gotten these traits from Sirius or my mother. I sigh as I blow hairs out of my face and put on a smile.
