The screams were getting more antagonizing by the minute. I run over to see what the hassle was, to see Harry, Ron, and Hermione standing over Katie Bell. She was the Chaser for the Gryffindor Quidditch team.. but there she was, on the grass, slightly bleeding and jerking violently. The sight was horrendous, but it didn't phase me one bit.Madam Pompfrey and a bony lady, who is also known as Professor McGonagall come pushing through the crowds of students. Pompfrey was our medical witch, she could basically heal anything from a gash to poisoning.. anything like I said. Pompfrey kneels down to Katie, to see something in a box. She takes the box in her hand and examines it as she opens it. She gasps. But that box looked all too familiar for it to be true. Hagrid hobbles over and gasps as he views the item. He yells to the viewers.
"Don't touch it! It's cursed."
That was the necklace Draco bought from the shop. He couldn't have done that, he couldn't. I know him better than that. I bet he is here as shocked as we all are. But I don't see my blonde headed competitor in sight. I needed to find him and get an explanation for this right now. I know I don't have much luck, but it was worth a shot.
"Ms. Bell will be perfectly fine!" McGonagall exclaims to the body. "If anyone has information on this disaster, let Dumbledore or me know immediately. Thank you.." She glances towards us Slytherins. Of course. Too bad I wasn't going to come forward with information on what I saw today. Draco may be a bully, but he isn't a murderer. There was a valid explanation behind this and I was going to find out. Dislike Gryffindor or not, I wasn't going to let this boy be corrupted by his parents.
And I knew exactly where he was.
I storm angrily down the empty halls to the Astronomy tower hat seemed to always be deserted as everyone was outside gossiping saying someone in Slytherin did it. Probably so, but no one is going to understand. Harry, Hermione, and Ron easily blamed Malfoy. As quick as their mouths could run.
I knew he was in the tower because despite him being so calloused, I see him go up here at night. Maybe to think, maybe to curse or hex someone; hell if I knew anymore. This boy had too many secrets to him. And if it took spending the rest of my years at Hogwarts to find them all out, I was going to do exactly that. I saw potential in him that no one else did. His parents only see him as a pawn they were able to move. Because he knew if he didn't get moved, he would be knocked over immediately.
I rush up the stairs, my small legs taking me as fast as they could.
I stop at the top, and see the blonde headed boy gazing out of the tower outside. The moon reflected beautifully off of the mess, and his pale complexion. I had to say something before this became awkward for the both of us.
"What do you want, Black." He glumly says. He beat me to it. His tone was angry, confused even. It hurt to even hear him like this. This wasn't the cocky bully I knew for the last two years. No, it was vulnerable Draco Malfoy in all of his glory. I wondered if he was like this every night when no one was around.
"I just want to ask you one question. And I want you to be completely honest with me Malfoy.." I say in a reassuring tone. He puts his head down in a sense that he was ready to hear it. "I know you don't know me well, and I don't you. But.. did you give Katie Bell that necklace." I didn't ask. I simply said it because I knew the truth. He sighs and his shoulders slump.
"Get out of my sight." He grinds.
I step closer to him, we were about three feet apart now. "No." I cross my arms. His head shoots up to me, and his anger starting to boil over, he started.
"I know you were here to accuse me of hurting her, Black! Do I look stupid to you?!"
"No. But I saw you in Hogsmeade today and I saw what you got at the shop when you bought that necklace. Why did you do to it, and why did you give it to her Draco?" I said his first name to him for once, and it felt damn good to stand up to him.
"Don't call me bloody Draco, you have no right. And this is none of your business." After yelling, he positions his whole body to face mine. I take a few steps closer, closing some distance.
"I know who you are, Draco Malfoy and it is not some bloody murderer." I shove his chest, and he doesn't stumble as he is pretty tall and sturdy. "I know what you did. And all I have to say is that you are better than this. You are better than what they are making you do." I look him up and down with a nasty look, and rush down the stairs back to the common room. His face looked legitimately shocked, no one had stood up to him like that before really. Not in a sense that they cared.
My adrenaline as pumping, I was fuming with rage. Why would they do this to him? His father, Lucius.. he was a Death Eater. I thought it was obvious but people still found a way to deny it. I wasn't about to let Draco become one himself. I wasn't going to let that happen.
I don't know you very well Malfoy, but I do know that you have a heart. If i have to dig for it, or even help you find it, that is what I was going to do. Everyone needed someone; he has always had no one.
Be prepared, Malfoy. You can't bully me away.
