Episode 46: Nightmare
Chase was startled by the lack of light in his apartment.
Usually he was the one who found comfort in allowing the darkness to seep into this place, but not Valentina.
No, his girlfriend had enough of bumping into tables and chairs as she sneakily went for a midnight snack. She had learnt the hard way that not everyone could befriend the complexities of the night.
He threw his keys down on the island after shrugging off his jacket and drew in a deep breath.
He was exhausted.
Today was filled with a trailer load of meetings and design draft checks and all he wanted to do right now was sleep in the arms of the woman he loved the most.
It was a relief that she had no schedule today and would be at home.
That meant he didn't have to wait to be coddled like he was craving.
"Valentina—"
He was interrupted by it.
The noises.
His entire form froze at the sound of them.
It had taken a minute for him to confirm it—yes, that they hadn't been a figment of his imagination.
He stalked past the living room and towards her bedroom.
Cold sweat filled his body because the closer he drew to where she was, the louder it became.
The fucking.
Chase could hear someone's name being called out in a faint voice. His fists folded. He knew that voice all too well; the pitches it could reach when her body was treated right, the squeals it could make as he went deeper and with timed strokes. Valentina's bedroom was now less than five feet away. If he went further he would be able to see. See the image behind the door that was left unhinged.
She was now screaming his name.
And he felt a hot line of red shoot through him as he recognized it.
"Kylo!"
She yelled.
While he fucked her.
Out of instinct, he backed away from the door. He had been in this scenario before—been cheated on but he'd never had the torture of witnessing it. He felt his tongue become as heavy as sandpaper and the hallway he stood in began to spin. He couldn't come to terms with the reality of what was happening inside his apartment. It made him dizzy. It was like his entire world had been shaken up, not just this hallway or the ground beneath him. His past, his present, and his future—all of them were off their axes. His hand braced against the wall to balance himself.
She was still moaning.
He shook his head, feeling like he was about to throw up all the contents he had all day.
But he needed to see.
As cruel as it was for his heart, he needed to see it to believe it.
That way he wouldn't be running off ghostly assumptions and haunting noises.
Chase took those final steps to the bedroom and what he saw broke him.
There was Valentina bent over onto the bed. His eyes closed as soon as he saw what happened within that terrible moment. He tried to shut out the look of pleasure on her face. Tried to shut out the way she curled up at the feeling of another man's hands gripping her hips and lifting them further up, until he was behind them, pushing into her with unfiltered greed.
