Episode 41: Eavesdropping
Chase had taken a moment for himself to recover from the mortification he was experiencing.
It was something that was going to be in the top ten most embarrassing moments of his life for sure.
And trust him when he says there have been many of those which many would deem to be top contenders.
Unfortunately, this one just had to include him indirectly hurting the feelings of the last person he wanted to.
He needed to express that to her right now but looking at Valentina made him feel ashamed and guilty.
With a resigned sigh, he excused himself quickly for a much craved drink.
Her mouth opened to call after him, but seeing the look he wore she knew that no matter what she said he wouldn't feel very inclined to listen to it right now. His feelings were felt by her and she could only imagine how much he was blaming himself — which he really shouldn't be because there was no way he could control his aunt's opinions of her.
But the woman was mature enough to understand that his pride was chipped at, especially with all confidence within it of taking care of her to the best of his abilities.
He obviously didn't want her to have any sense of insecurity when it came to that.
Now that his own family member brought a threat to his plans it was making things between them more difficult.
Valentina's eyes went straight to the couch after she let the hand which reached out for him fall by her side.
Her gaze stayed fixated onto the piece of furniture which she had intended to recline on.
She was forced to pause at a familiar designer bag.
It was Aunt Genevieve's.
That much was clear.
For a moment, Valentina wondered if she left it behind on purpose.
Maybe she had wanted her nephew to chase after her so she'd be given the opportunity to privately coerce him to leave her.
Genevieve was definitely capable of that much based on how brutal she was to her.
But with the haste she left in that didn't seem to be the case.
She ran a hand through her hair, tongue flicking out momentarily as she took a sharp breath.
This was all so frustrating.
Despite how much she didn't want to be affected by all of this, it was all slowly creeping up on her.
The woman barely had the time to think about the events which had occurred — the most outstanding one being Chase's confession of love for her.
Everything had happened all too fast for her to think, to feel even.
She knew deep down her feelings were similar to that of fireworks, but why did it feel like catastrophic bombs at this moment?
She felt awkward while taking up the item, so much that she pinched it between her fingers as if it was some repulsive little thing.
There was a long moment in which she mulled over whether to wait for her nephew's return so he could give it to her.
However, he was still battling with the thoughts in his head inside the bathroom.
With a deep sigh, she grabbed the bag and sprinted for the door against her better judgement, half heartedly hoping she could catch up with the owner.
