A/N: I know Meredith is only a resident when she shooting happens in the real show, but here she's experienced enough to preform her own solo surgeries. Also, I'm not a doctor so the medical things probably won't be completely accurate, but I tried my best.
The next day, nature took its course and I got my period. Part of me felt relieved that I wasn't pregnant, but I also felt really disappointed. I hadn't let myself want another baby, but now that I know it's not happening, it's kind of crushing.
I did the talking thing. I told Derek all that last night. He was way more understanding than I expected him to be. He's not mad, like I expected him to be. I don't know exactly how he's feeling through all this, but I'm grateful he's there for me when I need him.

The loud beeping of a pager jerked me from my sleep in an on-call room. I groaned and reached over to the table where it sat and looked at the screen. Multiple traumas coming in.
I rolled out of bed and smoothed myself out a bit before making my way downstairs. The ER was full of doctors preparing for the incoming patients. There was some sort of ominous feeling hanging around, which confused me.
"Hey, what's happening?" I found Cristina and asked, helping her tie a trauma gown on.
She turned to look at me for a long minute. "There's been a shooting,"
Everything around me seemed to stop. "W-what?"
"Some guy robbed that big jewelry store a few blocks from here. With a gun. All we know is a lot of GSWs,"
"Oh god," I whispered. I shook myself out of the daze I was in and pulled a trauma gown on, turning around so Cristina could tie it for me.
                              "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," I assured her, and we walked outside to await the ambulances.
The first one rolled up, and I opened the doors, listening to the paramedic.
"34 year old female, looks to be about 26 weeks pregnant, multiple GSWs to the abdomen, her husband's right behind us,"
I shared a glance with Cristina, but before she could say anything I took command and rushed the patient into a trauma room. We assed the injuries, two bullets had passed through her abdomen and lodged themselves in her spine.
"Page Shepherd, let's get her to the OR before she bleeds out,"
We reached the OR, and we were in the middle of scrubbing in when a pager went off. A nurse picked it up.
"Dr. Yang, they need you in OR 5. It's her husband," The nurse called, referring to the patient on our table.
"What happened to him?" Cristina questioned, drying off her hands before starting towards the door.
"Multiple GSWs to the chest, they need an extra set of hands," The nurse responded.
Cristina looked back at me, concern flashing across her face.
"It's not me. Go, I'll be fine,"
Cristina hesitated, but then took off out the door. I stepped into the OR and noticed the OB stationed in front of a fetal monitor.
"Let's push some steroids to help mature the baby's lungs in case we need to deliver," I ordered.
The anesthesiologist nodded and began to dose the drugs. I had just snapped on my gloves when the sliding door opened behind me, and my husband stood next to me, also putting a gown and gloves on.
