IT'S A SHE

ACT 3 SCENE 1

(Dexelcove College.)

Madam Isabella: (Walks into the classroom with a stern look on her face and speaks to the class, interrupting sir Benjamin's lesson) : "Is there anyone by the name Henry Onukwa here?"

(All the students point their finger to a cowardly looking boy who sits in the middle of the class).

Henry : (Raises his arm, slowly) "Yes... mam".

Madam Isabella : " Meet me in my office after school". (Walks out of the class without ever glancing at Mr Benjamin).

(Class continues to remain dead silent).

Mr Benjamin : (Says in his head as he watches her walk through the door). " Such a beautiful woman and more reputable of her, the headmistress of such a prestigious school yet, not a single smile on her face".

(Peyton Ville).

(Both carriages arrive at the gates of the castle).

Soldier : (Dressed in a green shirt tucked into a long black trouser with a black belt and in black leather boots orders the carriages to stop). "Halt! who goes there".

Coach man of the ladies carriage: "His Highness Kennedy McCarthy and his guests".

Soldier : (Shouts to his colleagues). "Open the gates". (He bows to each carriage as it passes by).

Abena : (Becomes hyper with excitement and exclaims) " Oh my god, mum mum look outside the window. It looks just like in the movies. Look at the trees, the statues, there are even servants waiting for us at the entrance." (Screams in excitement).

Kofi : "Uhm... so..., Ken, what really is Peyton Ville and why does everyone one here call you sire, and I've been wondering ever since we entered this place. Why does here look like it's from the medieval ages. The people, the way they dress, the carriages, even the castle. You know I'm a geographer and I can tell you 100% that this place is not on Ghana's map".

Kennedy : (Chuckles) "Oh Kofi, you ask too much questions, but don't worry, you'll get to know very soon. Very soon."

(Dexelcove College).

(Madam Isabella's office. Henry sits in a chair Infront of Madam Isabella's desk with his hands on his laps and his fingers laced).

Madam Isabella : (Sits in her swivel chair across the desk, leans forward with her hands rested on the desk and fingers laced and looks sternly in Henry's face) "So you're saying he and his sister were home yesterday".

Henry : (Answers in a quivering tone whilst nodding his head) "Yes... mam".

Madam Isabella : "Thats all. Leave".

Henry : "Thank you mam". (And with a sigh of relief hurriedly walks out of the office).

Madam Isabella : (leans back on her chair and turns around to face the window behind her and says in her head angrily as she laces her fingers again). " Useless demons! You ask them to one one simple thing, just one.
(Sighs and stands up looking into the window and says to herself as she sneers at the thought of her words ). " You can run Lois, but you can't hide. I will find you. And I will make you pay".

(The schools parking lot).

(Mr Benjamin walks a female teacher to her car, and turns to walk away).

Miss Jennifer : "Hey, how about I give you a ride ?"

Mr Benjamin : "No Jenni, I'll just take the van".

Miss Jenni : "But I insist. If not I'll tell your mother..."

Mr Benjamin : (Chuckles) "Okay, okay, I'll go with you".

(Both teachers get in the car and Miss Jenni pulls out of the parking lot onto the street).

Miss Jennifer : "Ben did you notice the look on the head mistress's face today".

Mr Benjamin : "Please don't start now".

Miss Jennifer : "No no. We all know she never smiles, but today's own was intense. She came into my class looking for a certain student. She did not even look into my face or say sorry for interrupting my lesson. Only God knows what's wrong with her".

Benjamin : "Enough about this headmistress thing. She did the same thing in my class. The student she was looking for was my student. I even spoke to him after he went to see her in her office".

Miss Jennifer : (Steals a glance at Benjamin) " Such impudence. But why would she want to see him".

Mr Benjamin : "Just listen. He told me, she wanted to know why two students Christopher Iyan and Delphine Abena Iyan were absent today".

Miss Jennifer : "But why would she ask him, she came to my class and the female student is one of my students. In fact the best student and she certainly knows she's in my class. Shouldn't she have asked me?"

(Miss Jennifer takes a left turn).

Mr Benjamin : "What a coincidence, the male student is my student. However they are siblings and Henry happens to be Chris's friend. How she learnt that, I can't tell. But I guess that's why she asked him".

Miss Jennifer: "But isn't it strange, she should have asked us instead. We are their teachers aren't we?"

Mr Benjamin :Yes I suppose. Anyways, yesterday's awful incident has been bothering my mind".

Miss Jennifer : "The two kids who went missing ? "

Mr Benjamin : "Yes the boy and the girl. I just couldn't teach well today. My class was also very silent".

Miss Jennifer : "But why".

Mr Benjamin : "You see, the boy was my student. He was a very close friend to Christopher and all of a sudden he vanishes. Henry even told me he went with him to Christopher's house yesterday and today Christopher too was absent. Jenni I'm really starting to get terrified of this town. Two girls disappear and a week later a boy and a girl. It's just scary. What's more creepy is that, all these children were pupils of our school."

Miss Jennifer : (Starts to speak in a saddened tone) "You don't know what I've had to deal with Ben. Those two girls were from my class and one was a friend of Delphine. She was just depressed even on her birthday. I just hope she has gotten over it. Perhaps that's why both of them did not attend class today. Loosing their friends in such a scary manner."

Mr Benjamin : "Jenni, only God knows what is happening. Anyways I'll get down at that church just after you turn left".

Miss Jenni : "Why ? Shouldn't you be going home. It is a Friday".

Mr Benjamin : "I know Jenni, but I just feel like I've got to say a prayer for Henry and Chris. Would you like to join me ?"

(Miss Jennifer makes the turn and Mr Benjamin gets down from the car)

Miss Jenni : "I wish I could but I've got to pickup my mom from the hospital today".

Mr Benjamin : "Oh okay. What's the name of the girl related to Christopher again, I've forgotten".

Miss Jenni: "Abena Delphine. And hey, say a prayer for my mom and her too for me".

Mr Benjamin : "No worries. See you on Sunday then".

Miss Jennifer: "See you then". (Drives off).

(Madam Isabella's office).

(Madam Isabella tells her assistant to go home for the day. She locks her door and draws her curtains together. She pushes her desk to one side of the office and picks up six candles and a chalk from the drawer. She draws a star on the ground with six apex with a chalk, lights all the candles with a lighter on her desk and places them on each apex of the star. She steps over the candles into the middle of the star and sits cross-legged and palms together. She starts to mumble some words and a cloud of thick darkness fills the room).
