ALIVE DEATH

HE IS HERE

Act 1 Scene 2
(Abena suddenly opens her eyes widely on her bed with beads of sweat on her face staring blankly at the white painted plywood ceiling as her hands move swiftly down her sides to pull up her blue blanket despite her quivering hands.)

Abena: (In a shaky voice) "...what... the... fuck, he... is... real"
(she shakingly turns her head towards the right to look at her window to know whether it is already morning, but looks back up when the bed begins to creak and in a frightened voice say silently)"Oh my God, he's here he's here"

(A silent husky voice amidst the sound of the running motor of a chainsaw whispers into her ears "I'll be back soon")

Abena: (Now more frightened than ever in a sobbing desperate but angry voice shouts) " go away! Get out of my head! Go away!"

(Lots of voices are heard in the house)

Brother: "Abena yedin aah SHUT UP!"

Mother: (rushes up the stairs leading to Abena's room shouting her name in a frenzy whiles trying to tie the belt on her red morning coat) "Abena! Abena! Abena!"
(She gets to the door and opens in gently, with her hands moving across the wall, looking for the light switch. She finally gets to the switch after 3 seconds, turns on the light and hurriedly runs to the side of Abena, who is still looking into the ceiling mumbling the words "get out of my head" while sobbing silently looking stiff with tears running down the side of her face, down her cheeks, onto the white pillow. In a worried voice whilst touching her head, the mother says to her) "Sweetie sweetie, what's wrong"

Father: (in a loud voice shouts to the hearing of his wife from the bathroom in their bedroom as he holds his brush to his mouth, just before he starts to brush his teeth, looking into the mirror on the wall just above white the sink) "Honey is she alright".
(Starts to brush) "I'll be there in a few minutes".

Abena: (In a shaky voice and still crying) Mommy, he's here, he's here!

Mother: (Now shocked and confused, in a more worried and frightened tone) " Who is here Abena, who is here ?"

Abena: "Abban Maa, Abban is here, he is here".

Mother: (Now less worried but even more frightened) "Oh no!"
(In a silent voice) "this is bad, this is bad"
(Rises to her feet and draws apart the curtains as she opens the window and stares into the tree just beside the house and asks Abena in a settled voice.) "What did you see"?

Father: (walks into Abena's room with a cup of water in his hand and a towel about his neck, still in his pyjamas. He starts to speak as Lois fixes her eyes on him for a brief moment) ''Abena here, have a cup of water.
(Abena gets up to sit on the bed still trembling with her father seated facing her as he hands over the water to her.) "There you go, easy does it , easy, easy."
(Father still looking into Abena's face)"Lois, why are you standing there looking into that window, what happened here?"

Mother: (Wipes the tears off her face with her hands and turns to look at her husband)"Kofi enye hwee, I think she just had a bad dream.
Yeah it was just a bad dream.

Abena: (Looking confused and turns to look at her mother still with a shaky voice) " ...but ... But ... Maa"

Mother: (Speaks making gestures with her hand to Abena as Kofi still has his gaze fixed on her daughter.) " It was just a bad dream Abena"

Father: (Now looking into Lois's face sternly) "Lois are you sure, Abena does seem petrified to call it just a bad dream, besides, this ain't the first time this has happened. And to think of it , this all started after her birthday.
(Looking at Abena) " my little sweetheart, if it's just another birthday party you want just say it, you are really freaking us out. "

Abena: (Still with the cup of water in her hand but now with a calm voice) "Uhmm... no dad, I... I... just had a bad dream".

Father: (In a relaxed voice) "well if that is so sweetie, I'm very sorry, but you have to get up and bath for school. You are getting late. Chris is already done and is waiting"

Mother: "I'll help her get ready Kofi, just... go and take your bath".

Chris: (Shouts) "Dad I'm ready"!

Father: (walks backwards slowly, out of Abena's room and  speaks in a more solemn and comforting tone) ''Okay then Lois, just make sure she's ready before 6:00am".
(Goes through the door and turns to descend the stairs but suddenly becomes stiff as he feels his left foot step in some liquid. He tries to look down, but finds his neck stiff).

Chris: (Speaks in a stammering voice) "Dad... dad... there's blood... flow flowing down the stairs".
(Starts to tremble and scream) " Dad..., dad!... dad!!!"

Lois: (Abruptly stops folding Abena's blanket upon hearing Chris' scream and falls to her knees looking into her palm with with her arms lifted halfway up her chest and tears running down her plumpy cheeks, and with a breaking voice screams first softly then loudly) " No... no..., it can't all end like this, no, not again!"
(Starts to cry immensely).

Abena: (In the bathroom with the shower turned.  A loud thump is geared from the bathroom).

(A dark shadowy figure walks upside down Abena's ceiling holding a chainsaw just after all the bulbs in the house burst, going off with dim lights rays seeping into the room from the window which Lois opened).

Lois: (still looking into her hands with tears streaming down her face) "What do you want Abban? you already have my soul"

Dark shadowy figure: (Grins widely showing a set of clean white teeth, which is the only visible part of his body in the dark. It starts to speak with a grumbling, husky, deep echoing, voice) "Hahaha, hohohoho, hehohahahalehehehe, it's pay back time"

Lois: (lifts her head up blocking the few rays of dim lights that seeped into the room and and speaks with tremble in her voice) "You're... not... Abban".
