Seijoh High School

A certain player has been missing during practice for the past few days, Kyoutani. He hasn't shown up ever since the match against Shiratorizawa. You aren't really close to Kyoutani, though you don't think anyone really is.

You bend down and grab your strawberry milk from the vending machine. It was technically class time, but you had taken a "bathroom break" to skip. It was just a boring lecture anyways, something about biology.

Movement by the corridor catches your attention. You tilt your head back, taking a sip of your milk to see who it was. You see Kyoutani angrily stomping his way through the halls. If you haven't known better, you'd think he's mad about something, but now that you've been around the first year for some time, you know that he's just always in a bad mood.

You're curious as to why he hasn't shown his face around the club, so you decide to approach him.

"Hey~ Kyoutani-kun?" He flinched at your sudden appearance. "Whatcha doing? Isn't there class?"

Kyoutani turns around to face you, he grunts, looking visibly annoyed. "I could ask the same for you."

You shrug. "I was bored." You clasp your hands behind your back and lean forward, not bothering to hide your curiosity. "Say, why don't I see you at practice anymore?"

His face morphs into further irritation. "What's it to you?" He definitely cannot go anywhere without starting a fight.

You aren't bothered by his aggressive aura. "Don't be like that Kyoutani-kun! I'm just curious!"

He grunts before answering. "The third years are annoying." He says bluntly. "The suck. Are you trying to get me to come back to the club? Or are you going to get mad at me for 'disrespecting my upperclassmen?'"

Instead of giving him a lecture, you shrug, slightly amused by his answer. "Meh, I was just wondering why you weren't at practice." He wore a confused expression as you continued. "Well, I do want you to come back. You're still part of the team, don't keep us waiting Kyoutani-kun!" You wave and walk off, not bothering to look back.

-----

The orange hue of the sunset causes you to squint your eyes as you make your way off the train.

It's been sometime since your last encounter with Kyoutani. Of course, he didn't just magically start appearing at practice, though you weren't too worried about him.

School ended a few days ago. When the new school year starts, you'll go back as a second year.

You weave your way through the streets and head to the familiar path that leads to the park.
You really have no obligation to visit Hinata, he had just spiked your interest.

You hear the familiar sounds of a volleyball as you follow the park trail. You peak out and see Hinata, practicing tossing the ball up in the air.

"Hey Shou-kun!" You greet him, waving.

"Y/n-senpai!"

"Want me to toss for you?"

He grins. "Yes please!"

-----

You yawn in time for a breeze to pass through the park. Hinata is next to you, fiddling with the volleyball in his hands. The two of you had just finished practicing, now sitting next to each other on the grass to rest.

"Shou-kun? Something wrong?"

"Huh?" He looks up, meeting your eyes, then quickly avoiding them. "Ah- well..."

You look at him with amusement. "You've been acting weird all this time, you couldn't focus at all. What's on your mind?"

"I don't think I can practice here anymore..." Hinata pouts. "I have to study for entrance exams, my parents aren't letting me do anything other than studying!" You laugh at his sulking face, which only causes him to deflate more.

"Hm, if that's the case, how about we exchange numbers? That way you can always update me on how you're doing at volleyball." His mood brightens.

"Really?! Thank you y/n-senpai!" You type your number into his phone as he looks at you pleadingly. "Now can you tell me which school you're going to?"

"Nope!" You playfully tap his phone on his head. "I told you, it's a surprise! We'll face each other one day, Shou-kun."

Practicing with the boy was always fun, his stamina never seemed to run out and showing him a new skill would always result in him spending forever trying to learn.

"When we face each other, you'll have to show me how much you've improved." You stand up and brush off your pants, getting ready to head back.

He beams, now thinking of how to impress you. "Yeah!"

"Good luck, Shou-kun."
