THE FIRST DAY OF CLASSES

Classes for first years wouldn't start until the 4th to allow us to adjust and make friends. I had been put in a room with Hermione, the frizzy-haired girl who talked to us on the train, and two other girls called Lavender and Parvati. They all insisted that I should get first pick of the beds, which I didn't like, but ended up taking the one in the left hand-side corner of the room by the large window. Hermione and I quickly became close friends, geeking over different subjects and things to learn, whilst the other two girls talked about other things.

I spent the second day going around with Ron and Harry, looking around the classrooms and getting the gist of where our classes would be. Harry and Ron hadn't concentrated on anything I had said though and constantly discussed the large field with weird hoops on it. I was particularly interested in the potions rooms in the dungeons, fascinated by the plant-filled jars and small vials of potions. I didn't get much of a good look as Ron got scared by a spider and pulled me by my hand up the stairs, Harry following and laughing closely.

That night, Harry and I named our owls. It may not seem that important to you, but it was important to us. These owls were the first gifts we had ever received and we had easily grown attached to our trusted companions. Harry named his Hedwig, after a German witch that we read about in 'Hogwarts: A History'. I named mine Arsenius, after the great British potioneer Arsenius Jigger, who wrote the potions book that all first years are required to have. We were both proud of the names we had given to our owls and thought that it suited them well.

On the third day, we spent it chilling around the common room and trying to meet and talk to as many new people as possible. Well, Harry and I were. Poor Ron was so shy, I felt bad for him. Ron did manage to introduce us to his twin brothers though, Fred and George. Right off the bat, I knew I'd like them. They were funny and didn't show any hint of admiration for Harry and I. They just treated us like normal kids and weren't afraid to prank or insult us. Now, it may seem weird that I like that but if you were being tiptoed around constantly, some people being too afraid to tell you when you were wrong or call you out on something you did, you'd start to feel a little frustrated.

The next morning, Hermione, Lavender, Parvati and I got ready together, buzzing about our first real day at Hogwarts; our first day of classes. I tapped into a muggle radio station through the old dusty radio in our room to show Lavender and Parvati the music Hermione and I had grown up with. Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go was playing and Hermione and I knew all of the words. We danced around the dormitory, belting the lyrics as loud as we could and thanking the Gods above that the walls were sound-proofed. Lavender and Parvati didn't know the lyrics but that didn't stop them from dancing with us and just having a good time.
