THE SORTING CEREMONY

The boat ride across the Black Lake was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. The lights from the castle shone across the water, creating gentle shimmers along the ripples caused by the boats. Ron and Harry couldn't stop gawking at the castle as I sat between them, staring with awe as well. At one point, Ron almost fell overboard, which made the ride so much more enjoyable. The view, the atmosphere, the circumstances - it was all perfect.

Harry now gripped my hand tightly as we climbed the stairs to the great hall, stopping at the top where a proud woman in green robes stood.

"Welcome to Hogwarts. Now, in a few moments, you will pass through these doors and join your classmates. But before you can take your seats you must be sorted into your houses. They are Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin," she announced, looking at a certain student as she said 'Slytherin', "Now, while you are here, your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you house points. Any rule breaking, and you will lose points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup-"

"Trevor!" A boy shouted, reaching forward next to me and picking up the toad by the woman's feet. She stared down at the boy with a certain sternness that made the boy mutter an apology and quiver back into the crowd.

"The sorting ceremony will begin momentarily," she said finally before disappearing through the tall double doors and closing them again behind her. As I was about to make conversation with Ron about which house he'd like to be in, Draco sauntered over to the three of us with two of his friends.

"Hello again," he smiled, directing his greeting towards me.

"Hey Draco, this is Harry," I smiled, proudly introducing him to Draco.

"It's true then, what Elizabeth's been saying. Harry Potters has come to Hogwarts," Draco smirked. Many students around us fell into quiet whispers, whisper our names and looking between my twin and I, "This is Crabbe, and Goyle and I'm Malfoy...Draco Malfoy." Draco stuck out his hand for Harry to shake but was interrupted by Ron snickering.

Draco proceeded to glare at the red-haired boy and drop his hand, "Think my name's funny, do you? No need to ask yours. Red hair, and a hand me down robe? You must be a Weasley," Draco venomously, "you'll soon find that some wizarding families are better than others, Potters. Dont want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there," Draco smirked, holding his hand out again. My face contorted into one of horror as the sweet, kind boy I had met in Madame Malkins had easily turned into a horrible, rude prick. I let go of Harry's hand and stepped in front of him and Ron, face-to-face with Draco. His smile disappeared as soon as I shoved him backwards, causing him to stumble and almost fall over.
