Grief is a lot like ice.
It takes on many forms.
Whether it's that utter weakness you feel down to your bones.Or that deadly, crushing pain inside your soul.
Sometimes its transparent on ones face.
Transforming like a shapeshifter. You know those crack like spider webs that appear on a pond?
When you step on the ice but its too thin and brittle to handle the weight? When that ice sickle hangs above the edge of your house, right over your head?
That foreboding feeling, unsure when it'll fall? The way wisps of your breath can only be seen in winter?
Like a secret not daring to be uttered any other time of the year?Or how you realized you lost a piece of yourself long ago.
But you're unable to tell when the feeling all began in the first place?
Like the loss of the person you use to be.Its shadow that haunts you in your heart, dreams and memories.
The strength of the feeling is terrifying. It lives inside me like an unwanted visitor.
It comes and goes as it pleases, completely uninvited. It's that kind of energy that surrounds me now.
The hollow feeling of ice.
And I feel it rooted deep within me.
An artic cold that refuses to leave. The naivety of the world you once thought real.
The suffering that you now understand all too well. You're changed forever.
The thoughts are so loud they've merged inside your very being. It's like it was etched on your future headstone that you've yet to have.
That is grief, a reaper of the child you were and the innocence you once had.
