(So nice of me to come back with something scary, eh?)
The Governor's Guard, better known as Scary_Day, was heading back to his residence after a very long day. As he took off his golden helmet, feelings of fatigue overwhelmed him. Not having patrol duties that night, Scary sat down on his bed and drifted into unconsciousness.
The next day, he woke up in a room that wasn't his own. Sitting up, he looked around. The room seemed familiar.
Where am I?
Scary's thoughts were interrupted by a girl, who opened the door and poked her head in. "Oh! Good morning, William! You slept in, which is quite unusual for you." Looking up, Scary held his head. "Yeah, very unusual..."
The girl in the doorframe frowned, "Are you alright? You seem upset. Oh, I know! I'll make you pancakes, that always seems to cheer you up!" The girl skipped away into what Scary assumed was the kitchen. Cautiously getting up, he walked towards the open bathroom door. As he looked in the mirror, he watched as the skin on his face melted away to reveal a much younger-looking version of himself.
Scary sharply turned around as he was called for. Calming down, Scary responded, "I'm coming." He rushed out of the room and closed the door behind him. Turning back around, he had a plate of pancakes and a cup of coffee being handed to him. "Hopefully the pancakes make you feel better," the girl said, "I made you a cup of coffee, too! Sometimes you need a bit of caffeine to start off your day effectively." The girl smiled as Scary reached for the plates, "Thanks, Mary."
Mary? Where did that name come from?
Before Scary could grab the plates, they crashed to the floor, shattering into pieces. Looking down, he saw the coffee splatter, but what landed on him instead was hot, thick blood. Looking up was a mistake, too, as when he did, he saw the girl's body rotting in front of him. Blood leaked from her eyes as she screamed and crumpled onto the floor.
Scary backed up in horror and began to run for the front door. He was pulled back by the rotting corpse. "You can't head to work yet," its disembodied voice screeched, "You haven't eaten yet!" Scary pulled himself away and successfully escaped the house. After walking for what felt like hours, he found a pile of skeletons and other corpses, which were haphazardly stacked. He looked up as the remains of once-living people wriggled and creaked under the pressure and weight above them.
"You did this to us," they seemed to whisper at Scary. As he observed the pile, Scary saw a spear holding up his helmet at the top of the mound. Thinking this was the escape, he began to climb. Once he was close to the top, Scary felt his foot start to slip. He looked down to see the ground around the pile had disappeared, and now the structure was falling apart.
Determined to reach the top, Scary climbed faster. He reached for the spear as the bones beneath him disappeared. Holding on, Scary looked at the dark abyss beneath him, which patiently waited to swallow his soul. Suddenly, the spear disappeared from his hands and he plummeted downwards.
He closed his eyes as he felt the cold air rush past him. Invisible hands wrapped around Scary's limbs and pulled him downwards as thoughts frantically rushed through his mind. He was pulled down into a lab room. Scary couldn't move, he was strapped to a table. Talking in front of Scary were two people. One of the people was recognizable as the Supreme Leader, but the other person couldn't be identified. Scary felt chills as he stared at the unknown person. He felt eerily familiar, with his long black overcoat and fedora.
Scary tried to scream out for their attention, but no sound came out. The table flipped over and the lab was gone. After falling for a minute more, Scary landed on solid ground. Everything around him was on fire. Glad to be released, Scary ran through the flames, which plagued the entire town. A loud explosion throughout the screams caught his attention, and Scary watched as somebody went flying into the river.
Being familiar with this situation, he went running to save them, but Scary tripped and fell. He landed in a chair which was placed at a table. A table that was surrounded by the operatives and Supreme Leader. Scary began to hyperventilate and the room started to spin. "Let me out," he screeched. Feeling dizzy, Scary passed out.
He woke up on the cold cement streets of the Days City as three Night creatures tore into his flesh, ripping him apart. Blood stained the area around Scary as his vision faded and body became colder. The world around him slowly disappeared from existence as he stared blankly at the emptiness ahead of him.
Suddenly, Scary's body jerked upwards as he opened his eyes. He looked around and shot himself a few times to make sure this was real. Scary looked at the blanket of snow covering his legs, rather than one from his residence. Standing up, he brushed the snow off and viewed the bodies of both civilians and operatives around him. As Scary moved forwards, he kicked an object, which he kneeled over and picked up. Staring at the half mask in his hands, Scary tried to remember what happened to his city.
When he couldn't get a clear answer, he threw the mask aside and sighed. Scary turned around, not looking back, and began to walk away from his old home.
