The ordinary observer would see a mess of papers scattered across the room, but Emotionless had them organized. There were just so many papers, nobody could tell.Picking up the thirty-second stack of documents, Emotionless returned to his desk. An hour passed before the alarm on his watch started beeping. Holding his arm up, Emotionless turned off his wake-up alarm, which he didn't need today, or yesterday, or the day before yesterday, or the day before that... "Sleep," he muttered, "Too late for that now."
Emotionless stood up and stretched before preparing for the day. He had a very important meeting today. One he could not miss. He positioned his hat on his head and looked in the mirror to check if he looked presentable. If it was possible, Emotionless would have frowned. There were some extremely dark circles under his eyes. He rubbed at them in an attempt to make them go away, but when that plan failed, he decided to just ignore them.
Making his way out his residence's door, Emotionless checked his watch once more.
07:30
'Good', he thought to himself, 'I'm going to be on time.' The streets felt emptier than usual as Emotionless walked through the city. 'Well, of course. It's Sunday. The civilians don't have work today.' After about fifteen minutes, Emotionless arrived at the Days Facility. Checking to make sure he had all the right papers, he entered the building.
Emotionless walked through the hallways, greeting other operatives as he saw them. Finally, he reached his destination.
[MEETING ROOM] 000
Slowly pushing the door open, Emotionless entered the meeting room. "Good morning, Supreme Leader." He said, his tone seeming almost flatter then usual. "Good morning, Emotionless. How are you feeling?" Emotionless hesitated and Great stared at him, "Emotionless as usual. Now, shall we begin?"
Great looked at the door, and then down to his wrist, "No, we are waiting on two other operatives." Almost on cue, Scary stormed into the room, his golden helmet scratching the top of the door frame. Benevolent, who followed him, cringed at the scraping noise. The two other operatives fell into their seats on the side opposite from Emotionless. Standing up, Great's voice boomed throughout the room, "Now that everyone has arrived, it is time for the meeting to commence."
Talk about the cure for the Nights' Disease continued, but with each word that passed, Emotionless's vision got blurrier and his eyelids felt heavier. For a few seconds, everything seemed dark. Suddenly, a loud thud echoed throughout the room and Emotionless's eyes jerked open. He found himself on the floor. 'I must have fallen asleep. Did I fall out of my chair?' Looking up, Emotionless saw the three other people in the room staring at him confusedly.
Emotionless stood up and brushed himself off before sitting back down again. "Are you alright, Emotionless?" Great asked him. "Yes, I'm fine." "Ok, then can we continue?" Emotionless nodded, but Benevolent frowned and looked between Great and Emotionless, "With all due respect, Supreme Leader, Emotionless doesn't look 'fine' at all! Look at him!" Benevolent pointed towards Emotionless's face, "He looks exhausted! I haven't ever seen such dark circles under any of my patients' eyes, even when the haven't slept for days!"
Emotionless looked away as everyone's gaze shifted to him. "Emotionless", Scary began, "When was the last time you slept?" Emotionless blankly stared back at him for a moment before replying, "Sleep?" Scary growled at him, "Are you deaf? Yes, Emotionless. When did you last sleep?" Emotionless looked down at the table, "Sleep... I believe it was..." Emotionless thought for a minute, "Perhaps the first of October?" Benevolent's eyes widened, "Emotionless!" It's the twenty-fifth! You haven't slept for over three weeks!"
