Chapter 9

Cheryl's pov:

Toni's been staying with us for about two weeks and it's been great. Ava absolutely loves her and that makes me really happy. Today we have a parent teacher conference and I'm a little nervous. I don't want to ask Toni to come with me. Not that I don't want her to come, it's just if she doesn't want to go I'll feel dumb even asking.

"Mommy do you know where my other shoe is?!" Ava yelled running around the house trying to find her shoe.

"I gotcha!" Toni said, she grabbed Ava and spinned her around in her arms.

"Toni, put me down!" Ava laughed.

My heart melted at the sight. They looked so cute together.

"Okay okay" Toni sad her down.

"What do need help with bug?" 'bug' is Toni's nickname for Ava and it's the cutest thing.

"I can't find my shoe" Ava pouted.

"Oh, do you mean.... This shoe?" Toni pulled Ava's little shoe out of her sweatpants pocket.

Ava gasped.

"Yeah that one!"

Toni laughed and handed Ava's shoe to her. Ava quickly put it on with Toni's help. She couldn't quite tie them herself yet but I guess that's normal because she's only five.

"Ava we have to get going" I said.

"Mommy can Toni please come? Pretty please?"

I found it amazing that she wanted Toni to be apart of everything.

"If Toni wants to come I don't see a problem with it"

Ava turned to Toni and started jumping up and down in front of her.

"Please Toni will you please come with us?"

Toni thought for a second, jokingly of course.

"Hmm, I don't know...."

Ava pouted and used her puppy dog eyes.

"Please" she said in a little quiet voice as if she was about to cry.

"Of course I will bug" Toni smiled.

"Yayy!" Ava jumped up into Toni's arms.

I laughed and we all walked out of the house, Ava still in Toni's arms.

We were halfway there when I felt a hand slip into mine. I looked over at Toni driving and saw that her eyes were still focused on the road but she was smiling. I blushed a little and intertwined our fingers.

After a car ride of laughter and singing, we were at Ava's school. I was a little nervous to walk in. I think Toni noticed because she grabbed my hand once again. She also grabbed Ava's hand and we all walked in.

"Why hello Ava" Ava's teacher, Ms. Witt said. I believe she's somewhere in her 30's.

"Hi" Ava said. She's always been kinda shy around other people, except Toni. It surprised me how well Ava warmed up to her so fast.

"And who is this?" Ms. Witt said, asking about Toni.

"Oh this..is my...." I didn't know how to introduce her as we were 'taking it slow'.

"Hi I'm Toni, Cheryl's girlfriend" she smiled as she shook Ms. Witt's hand.

Oh she just went for it.

I've never actually came out to anyone before. Not even Betty and Veronica. I was so nervous for her reaction. I didn't want her to think I was a bad mother just because of my sexuality.

"Why hello Toni, it's so nice to meet you" she smiled back.

That was actually amazing. She didn't judge me.

"Okay so how this works is Ava and some other kid's can go off and play or stay with their parents. I will just inform you about how your child has been doing and show you some of her work so far. Sound good?"

"Yep"

"Okay let's start over here..."

After a lot of talking and reflecting on how Ava was doing, we were going to see some of her work which I was really excited for.

"Over here, we do art and miss Ava painted a beautiful picture of a sunset. I personally believe she is very talented in the art compartment" Ms. Witt explained.

"Wow this is really good" Toni said, going over the painting.

Ava was off playing with blocks with her best friend, Molly.

"And over her, we did a family project. I just had the kids draw a little picture of their families. I believe what Ava drew, is the three of you"

My heart stopped. In a good way though. It was a drawing of Toni, Ava, and I holding hands at what looked like the park. I felt like crying, again in a good way. I don't think I've ever been more happy then I am right now.
