john's point of view
after a long day of animals throwing up on you, a nice, warm, quiet bath would be ideal, but obviously, that can't happen in the laurens-hamilton-jefferson household.

i grip my hair in frustration as i get out of the tub. alexander and thomas' screeching continues all through me brushing my hair and putting on my pajamas.

i go downstairs, trying to rehearse what i have to say this time to get them to stop arguing and for them to forgive each other.

"oh. my. god. you're taking this case in a completely different direction! just admit it, you're wrong!" thomas yells.

"i'm not wrong! this is the direction washington wants us to take! get it through your big ass head!" alexander argues back.

"hey... can we like... not tonight? i'm really tired." i try to convince them.

"you always dismiss us, john! we get it, you're tired!" thomas groans.

i frown a bit, in slight shock he said that. am i too annoying? am i a burden to them? do they not love me anymore?

"don't be rude, thomas! now he's fucking overthinking. john, don't worry about it. you have every right to be tired." alexander soothes, placing a hand on my shoulder.

"i don't... dismiss you guys. it's just, you guys argue over the same thing almost every week! it's tiring..." i say, rubbing my temples.

"well, it's not my fault that alexander is too stubborn and can't do anything without washington's hand up his ass!" thomas yells.

"i do not! you're the one who always disappears with fucking madison half the time!" alexander argues.

i sigh, going towards the door and putting on my shoes.

"well- wait, where are you going?" thomas asks.

"on a walk. i just... can't do this right now." i reply as i finish tying my shoes.

"do you have your phone and stuff? like it's kind of late." alexander worries.

"i'll bring my phone to get you to shut up. it'll just be around the block just... please have this," i motion to them, "resolved by the time i get back."

they both nod and i leave, closing the door behind me. i put my hands in the pockets of alexander's sweater and start walking down the sidewalk. i admire the houses already starting on their christmas decorating even though it's only the first week of november.

i feel a bit uneasy when i hear footsteps behind me, but decide that i'm not the only person in new york who takes walks at night. still to avoid anything, i cross the street and start walking back home, silently hoping that thomas and alexander are finished.

i pull out my phone to dial alexander's number then i feel a cold metal against my neck and a looming presence behind me.
