I walk up to an address down near the quiet part of town. The town felt eerie and cold. I stumped upon the door that belonged to the lady's daughter. I knocked on it lightly, three times.

I waited for a response and a woman with long hazel hair and freckles appears with her phone latched in her hand.

"I, er, um hello. I was a friend of your mother's. I was hoping I could talk to you about something."

She looked at me interestingly and motioned for me to come in.

The house was cold. There was a fireplace but not fire. There was a heater but no heat.

"So, Isobel is it? What is there you wanted to tell me about my mother exactly?" I gulped.

"Well um. So you're her only daughter and well as her adult friend I-"

I look behind her to spot a figurine behind her and stand up and walk to it in awe.

"Is that a aquaman figurine. That's so cool, I thought they stopped making those"

She nods and looks sensitively agitated at me.

"I'm sorry I got carried away" I walk back and sit down.

"Well specifically getting to the point, your mum left me with a message that if she ever happened to leave this world, I would have to inform you that her inheritance that she left for you is buried underneath this house, precisely under her study".

She doesn't look so surprised and unpleasantly grinned at me.

"Is that all you had to say to me?"

I suddenly see the ghost of her mother behind her, and frowning.

"Shouldn't you be happy that you found out?"

She looked at her nails with an irritating smug and looked at me narrowing her eyes.

"It's not your business to worry about this. What do you even know about my family?"

I looked at her disappointed mother standing right behind her. Looking directly at her urged me to blurt out random things to her that were on my mind.

"Your daughter is a lunatic that doesn't listen to you"

Her daughter observed me and took in my words which must of never made sense. I walk to her dining table to find a piece of mud cake lying on a tray and pop it in my mouth.

"That's your mother's money beneath the ground. Take care of her life's earnings" I mumble through all the cake that was processing through my oesophagus.

I turn to leave when her daughter stopped me with her words.

"I will. I'll protect her and her money"

I spin around to smile at her and smile to see her mother's spirit finally being lifted. I happily walk out the door and the world isn't so cold anymore. I walk a few steps until I realise.

Her spirit is gone.

No. What. She left. How the shit am I going to know where the CEO's address is now. I angrily look up at the sky and shouted.

"You told me you would help me find him"

I curse and kick a rock to hit the trash can. I missed. I kick another rock in frustration. I missed again. I pick another bigger rock and throw it at the trash can.

I missed only for the rock to hit and destroy the bonnet of a brand new car.

The car's siren starts signalling and in the heat, the whispers and the lingering appearances of ghosts encircle my surroundings. I cup my ears to the screeching noises that filled their voices.

Someone grabs my arms while turning me around. With my face still looking down, I realise that the resounding noises of the ghosts had disappeared. I carefully look up to recognise a face. A face that belonged to a company I had a job interview for. It was Mr CEO guy looking irritated as he stood in front me.
