Y/N woke to the sun in her eyes.
"Morning," she mumbled sleepily. With a yawn she rolled over to his side, seeking the warmth of his body.
She kept rolling until she almost fell off the bed.
In her half-asleep state she managed to sit up, rubbing her eyes confusedly. The clothes he was wearing last night were folded neatly at the foot of the bed and Y/N sighed. Her husband was already gone.
Y/N swung her feet onto the cold wooden floor, throwing her face into her hands.
She thought of the news article she read online yesterday, and the same tears threatened to fall once again.
"Playboy idol caught partying with supermodel Yuna!"
"******** gets scandalous in LA"
She forced herself to stand up, determined to go on with her day as usual. No matter how hard she wished it wouldn't, the world still went on, and it sure as hell was not waiting for her.
As Y/N reached the kitchen to prepare breakfast, she found a piece of paper lying on the bench.
It read—
"I'm going to be out late. Don't wait up." Miki muttered in a ridiculing tone. "That's what they always say."
She closed the Wattpad app with a deep sigh, throwing her phone onto the pillow beside her. Based on the stories she'd read online, some marriages were going far worse than hers was.
But as she lay alone on the queen-sized bed, she started to notice the resemblances...
Miki stared at the ceiling blankly.
"You're just hungry," she concluded after a while, and happily lost herself in a daydream about barbecue and dumplings.
She hadn't even realised she was picking her nose until someone cleared their throat from the doorway, making her sit up abruptly, finger pushed into her right nostril.
She quickly wiped her hands on her shorts and stood, almost feeling like she needed to bow.
"I didn't know you were home already." She said sheepishly.
He stared at her strangely, holding out a plastic bag that smelled heavenly. "Thai."
Stepping forward to accept it, her fingers brushed against his slightly. With a grateful smile, she followed him to the kitchen. "How was work today?"
"Busy. As usual."
The Jungs did their normal night routine.
After a quiet dinner, she would offer to wash the dishes. As always, he would decline, and the disagreement would continue until one settled for drying the plates.
Afterwards, she'd go to the bathroom to prepare for bed, rubbing skincare products onto her cheeks as the sound of the television drifted up from downstairs.
With nervous steps, she'd move to the living room to find him lounging on the couch, watching some show. As usual, she'd make some general comment like that looks interesting, or isn't that _________?
As usual, he'd respond with "Mhm."
Well, goodnight. Miki could never suppress the formality in her voice, as every time she thought of loosening up she always ended up chickening out.
Sometimes he'd look at her, sometimes not. Night. Sleep well.
Like a child being dismissed by a teacher, she'd scurry upstairs to her seperate bedroom, closing the door quietly.
Tossing and turning in the sheets, it isn't until she hears his slow, even footsteps up the stairs when she finally gets some rest.
a/n: welcome to one day at a time!
i'm labelling this as 'slice of life' because it will be focusing on their daily interactions (but each chapter won't necessarily be the very next day).
isn't it interesting how people get closer over time? like one day you hold hands for the first time, a week later it's a hug goodbye...
anyways, i hope you enjoy their journey with me! 💕💖💓💞💘💝
