Chapter 54

Y/N POV

I stood between the two incubators as I watched my two premature babies. Twins. How did we end up with twins? The apartment was ready for maybe one more kid. But not even that.

It's crazy. How much your heart can hold. It grew today. When my two newborns came out, my heart expanded. It grew. I fell in love instantly. Like the first time I saw Christen.

My mind began to wander off to my girlfriend. I walked over to one of the doctors in the NICU hoping to get an answer.
"Hey, excuse me, are there any updates on Chris?"
"No, sorry. I can try and get one but as of now, I know nothing but I'm sure Dr. Montgomery is doing all that she can."
She tries to reassure me before I walk back over to the babies.

I smiled as their chests moved up and down as they breathed. They had ventilators because they're so small. They needed extra help to breathe. It's like they lived in sync. I began to snap pictures and I smiled again. I- we created them.

A nurse brought over a chair for me to sit in as I stayed with the twins. It made me think back to when Christen and I first found out she was pregnant.

FLASHBACK

"I changed my mind, I don't want to go." Christen says as we sat in my car outside the doctors office.
"Babe, if we don't go now, we'll never know and then you'll ya know, get big and then you lose the chance to tell your parents if you're pregnant for reals."

"But there's a chance I'm not. I told you I think I had the flu or something, you made this appointment, I don't want to go."
"Better safe than sorry and I have a hunch. What could be so bad about having a baby right-"
"Y/n I play soccer. It's what I want to do with my life. We're in high school. What if I lose my scholar-"

"Hey hey, no. Don't talk like that, don't think like that. You are not alone. You won't ever be alone because if you are pregnant i will be with you every single step of the way because i did this to you. To us. For all we know, this could be a blessing in disguise. Come on, where's your team spirit?"

"Y/n/n I can't handle a-"
"You won't handle a baby alone. I told you, I'll be here. I want you in my life forever and I mean, this could really seal the deal."
"Shut up this isn't a joke." She whined making me smile.

I leaned over and placed a kiss on her lips.
"You've stalled enough, come on."

I got out of the car going to the other side before opening her door. We head inside and I check us in for her appointment that i called in.

"Y/n they're going to tell my mom that-"
"No, I got that covered."

Christen pauses before slapping me on the arm.
"Did you sleep with one of them to cover this up?!"
"That's rude and no I didn't that would make me a cheater and I won't ever cheat on my future wifey and baby mama."
"Too soon."

We sat and waited for 10 minutes before the doctor called us in.

"This is going to be a little cold." Dr. Torres says as she began to get an ultrasound.
"Congratulations! You see that right there?" She says pointing on the screen.
"It's so small." I say as I held Christen's hand.
"Oh my god." Christen mumbles. I look down to see tears beginning to roll down her cheeks.

"I'm pregnant."
"Yes you are! Babies been there for about a month now!" Dr. Torres smiles as I kissed Christen.
"I- we're having a baby!" Christen finally smiled making me feel much better about our situation. I hugged her tight reminding her that I wasn't leaving. She's stuck with me. Forever.

END OF FLASHBACK

It's been about 4 hours and I still had no update on Christen. I couldn't help but to think the worst. I've been in contact with her dad because her mom won't talk to me and I've been checking in on Braelynn.

I told Kelley not to bring Braelynn to the hospital until I knew Christen would be okay. I put my face in my hands as I sighed. I definitely can't take care of two newborns and Braelynn by myself.

"Hey." I hear someone say. It was one of the doctors that worked in the NICU.
"I brought you some coffee. I thought you could need it. You look distraught."
"Haha, thank you." I said before taking the coffee out of her hand.

She sat beside me as she peered into the incubators.
"They're adorable."
"Yeah, they are."
"I heard about your girlfriend, is she okay?"
"No idea, I haven't had an update in hours."

The woman just nodded before speaking up again.
"I'm Dr. Cavanagh but you can call me Emma. Just realized I never told you my name."
"Y/n, nice to meet you."

I began to talk to the lady before I finally see Dr. Montgomery come into the NICU. I stood up fast walking over to her. My insides felt like they were turning.

"How is she?!"
"She's doing fine. She wants to see her babies, she's okay Y/n."

I let tears roll down my cheeks as I exhaled a deep breath and hugged Dr. Montgomery. Emma walks over and offered to help take the babies to Christen which I gladly accepted.

I made a quick call before we headed out of the room.

CHRISTEN POV

I looked around my now quiet room. The only thing making the slightest noise was my machine. I sat up as the door opened and I saw Y/n. She was followed by some woman and Dr. Montgomery.

Y/n walks over immediately hugging me and placing kisses all over my face.
"Don't you ever almost go out on me, Chris. I can't do life without you."
"You started that trend, you almost died first." I chuckled making her smile.

She turned around behind her, grabbing our daughter from one of the doctors before handing her to me and holding our son herself. She situated herself on the bed beside me as Dr. Montgomery took pictures of us with our newborns.

"They're so cute." I squealed.
"Duh, they have my genes." Y/n smirked making me playfully roll my eyes.

The doctors began to leave when the door opened again.
"Mommy!" Braelynn yelled before running in the room.
Kelley follows behind her helping her get on the bed to hug both Y/n and I.

She looked at her little brother and sister with wide eyes and a smile.

"We still need to name them." Y/n says and I smiled before going deep into thought.
"Ooh ooh can we name her Braelynn?" Braelynn says excitedly.
"No no that's your name baby."

"Kelley is a great name, just saying." Kelley says as she stood by Y/n.
"Definitely not." Y/n says jokingly before earning a slap on the arm from Kel.

Y/n and I locked eyes and I knew immediately what their names would be.

"Keanu Vincent and Nova Skye." I said as we sat with our babies. I smiled before Y/n placed a kiss on my forehead.
"Obviously, both our last names will be incorporated like they are for Brae." I say to Kelley who smiled.
