I don't really think about this ship much, although it is one of my favorites. Clay is the lovable Mudwing Prophecy Dragonet who loves food, but in an embarrassed way. He sees the rest of the Prophecy Dragonets as his brothers and sisters. Peril was the dragonet who es-queen Scarlet used as her champion; she was a symbol of power, a tool for threats, and just for overall entertainment. After she met Clay, she tries to change into a dragon who doesn't kill, a dragon who Clay would like.

What adds to the ship though is that all of Clay's friends don't approve of her since she betrayed them so Clay would't leave, but they still can't forget how she saved his life from the viper. To me (and this just my opinion) it's not exactly one of those "super cute" ships, but more like an entire love story or something. I don't know, hopefully the one shot can help!

~Peril's pov~

Peril never thought she could have friends. She was always known as Peril the Firescales. Nobody wanted to talk to her, and even if they did, she couldn't go near them because her fire. The closest thing she had to any parent or friend was Scarlet, even if she made her fight in gladiator arenas and kept her only for power. All she knew to do was kill and please Scarlet. Dragons feared her, but she was fine with that. She didn't need friends; as long as Scarlet was happy, she was fine.

But all of that changed on one fateful day. The day she met a dragon who didn't run away from her; one who could be safe from her fire and still be close to her. He was the sweetest dragon Peril had ever met, and the only one who actually believed in her, that she could change for the better even after her past.

That dragon was Clay.

When she was with him, she didn't hate the world. It was because of him that she has even more friends now. An entire winglet no less! Of course, there are still those who keep their distance because of her firescales, but most of them are just trying to protect themselves, not because they hate her for killing all those dragons in the arena; she still felt guilty about that though. But as long as Clay still liked her, that's all she needed to know. All she needed was Clay. He wasn't like Scarlet, he actually cared about her because of who she was, not because of her power.

Peril skipped across the stone floors of Jade Mountain Academy. Definitely not going to the prey center to see if Clay was still there. Just going to get some food and one-hundred percent NOT blushing and dreaming about Clay. Even if she was blushing though, nobody would notice because of her scales.

Just as it happened thought, Clay was in fact in the prey center. Peril's heart fluttered when she saw those welcoming brown scales, but then her stomach drops at the sight of other colors all around him. The blue scales of a Seawing, the black ones of two Nightwings, the green one of a Rainwing, and the golden yellow of that one certain Sandwing.

Uuuuuuugh not the others! Peril let out a silent groan.

"So, we're having new students?" Sunny asked, sounding a bit more exited than she let on.

"Yes, and I think it's high time we actually start expanding into the mountain," Glory said, using her royal voice she's been using every time Peril saw her.

"Better start expanding this place then." Clay spread his wings and indicated the Prey Center around them. "More students means more dragonets who need space to chase goats I guess."

Maybe I should just come back later...

"Peril!"

Oop, too late. Peril winced and turned around. Luckily, it was Clay calling her, using that sweet voice he always used to her. Unfortunately, it also caught the attention of the other Destiny Dragonets. Peril didn't have time to look at them, however, as Clay rushed up to her and enveloped her in his wings. Peril's heart melted and she hugged him back, snuggling her head into his neck.

After a couple of seconds, she pulled back and cleared her throat, gesturing with her head to the others. Clay moved away and that's when she noticed something. There was something...different about the way they looked at her. Sunny was giving her a smile, as usual, but something seemed less forced about it. Tsunami and Glory weren't giving her scowls either, but they weren't exactly beaming like Sunny. Peril could've sword a tiny smile was curved at the edge of Tsunami's and Starflight's snouts though. Glory probably would've been smiling too, if it weren't for the fact she was trying to look as regal as possible.

"What's going on?" Peril asked, trying not to laugh.

"We'll leave you two alone," Tsunami said, with the most unbelievable tone of both amusement and kindness that you'd never expect from the warrior Seawing of the group. The Dragonets filed out, with Starlight stumbling over a rock and Fatespeaker having to catch him before leading him out, leaving Peril and Clay alone in the moonlight.

"So..." Clay scratched the back of his head and laughed a bit.

"Okay, what was that all about?" Peril asked again, letting herself laugh this time.

"What was what all about?" Clay asked, but Peril could hear the fake innocence in his voice.

"Stop that!" she cried and flicked her tail at him. "I'd make a quip about burning the information out of them IF I WEREN'T SO CONFUSED!!!"

"What's confusing?" Clay said in the same voice and walked over to the open wall of the cave.

"WHAT'S WITH THE SMILING!?" Peril yelled quietly, getting straight to the point. "Who kidnapped the others and WHO WERE THOSE PEOPLE!? They NEVER smile at me what's going on!?"

"Okay, calm down!" Clay laughed and tried to keep her calm.

"Wait, is something up?" Peril asked.

"N-Nothing!" Clay said bashfully. Peril raised an eyebrow and he began to blush. He must've been blushing really hard because it was so dark in the moonlight and yet his blush was clearly visible.

"All right, fine." Clay sighed. "I've been talking to them and...well...I tried to get them to be a bit nicer to you and--"

"Wait!" Peril interrupted. "W-w-w-w-wah wait! So you're telling me that you made Tsunami, of all dragons, actually smile at me...by talking to her?"

"Something like that." Clay shrugged. "Anyways, I wanted to ask you if you wanted to go out on a moonlit flight?"

"Aww!" Peril smiled and hugged him, winding her tail around his. "I'd love to."

Moments later, they were out soaring above the trees under the light of the moons. Peril kept "accidentally" tackling Clay in the air and laughed as the tried to correct himself and frown and Peril. Eventually, Clay got her back by tackling her and making them fall into a pool at the base of the mountain.

"PFFFTT PUFT CLAAAY!" Peril whined, spitting out water. She tackled him in the water and before she knew it, she was lying in his wings, floating on the water's surface.

"Okay, can we get out of the water now?" Peril flew up and Clay soon followed behind.

"Thanks for taking me out here, Clay." Peril smiled and put a wing around him.

"Anytime," Clay said, beaming.

"Maybe I should take you somewhere next time."

Clay bumped his snout to her cheek and chuckled. "So long as there food!"
