Topic - Fluff

I also want to apologize for the big delay in posts. I've currently been applying to Universities, so I had to shift my attention elsewhere. I will attempt to maintain a somewhat organized schedule.

It was one of those times of the year again. Especially with the state of their guild currently, Lucas and David would be relied upon to get the majority of the money to bring Divinus Magia out of debt, so they had slowly, but surely, been accumulating S-class contracts and requests.
At least it wasn't so hard for them to come by them. With Grimshade having previously been out of commission, and The Protectors only recently recruiting an S-class, the contracts had started piling up in the care of the remaining Council members.

"Does it even say what we're supposed to be searching for?" Lucas asked, leaning over Davids shoulder to scan the piece of paper he held in his hands.

"Nope." David returned, popping the 'P'. "Just that there's a northern village that's been dealing with something ruining their hunt due to either, A, it killing off the animals itself, or B, it purposefully scaring off the herds to whittle down the townsfolk as they went out further."
Lucas let out a low whistle.

"So we're dealing with a smart monster. Fun." David let out a chuckle, nudging Lucas in the ribs. The amount of sarcasm between the two was enough for the entire guild.
"Anyways, let's go and prep whatever we need to. We'll have Mario or someone tell Ritchie and Brandon that we're going out."
With a small nod of his head, David shoved the contract into a pocket of his jacket, before the two split off towards their own residences.

'This shouldn't take more than a week' David thought, tossing a rucksack onto his bed. 'But it's best to be safe than sorry'.
With potions that were specified to magically heal those injure tossed into the bag in an unorganized flurry, followed by rations that, using Lucas' magic, could probably feed them for two weeks, and other medical equipment, David tightened it's neck to prevent the items from spilling. He trusted Lucas to have similar equipment, just on the safe side one of their bags got destroyed or lost along the way. Probably more medical items, considering that Lucas was better trained in that area, for whatever reason.
He slung the bag over his shoulder, quickly leaving his house. He had already left Plant under the care of Kit and, regrettably, Mario if either needed a break while they were gone. He knew that while his son didn't necessarily mean wrong, he could become rather chaotic and, honestly, unbearable at times.

He was outside the walls of the island a minute later, catching sight of Lucas preparing the boat they would be using for departure. It was a small one, unlike their guild boat, but definitely faster. They would be at the village in no time, certainly.
Time to mentally prepare for whatever this would bring upon them.

*~*~*~*~*

Snow crunched beneath their feet, freshly fallen and blinding as the sun reflected back at them. For whatever reason they missed, they hadn't expected the village to be in a literal frozen tundra. When the quest paper said it was located north, they were picturing a small fishing village, located on the edge of a lake with deer to hunt, not moose, that had people wearing small fur lined leather coats.
Still, David never felt better. He was in his natural element, grinning from ear to ear as his breath misted in front of him. It was cold. Very cold. And he was living for it.
The boat ride had taken a little over two days with nothing to deter them. Now was just the on-foot trek, which would probably take another day and a half at best. So, with the boat docked and secured, they had set out.
David breathed in deep, relishing in how the air was sharp in his lungs.

"Doesn't it feel great!" He stated, continuing forwards with his hands placed on his hips. "How the air here is so fresh and just smells of snow and ice? This was a great quest! And look around us! At all the pine and holly bushes. All natural, but so healthy!"
He spun in a circle for a moment, feeling like a child.
   "Lucas, isn't this amazi-"

He stopped in mild confusion, finding Lucas sluggishly making his way closer. He looked exhausted, despite the fact that they've only been walking for five hours at most— sunset was still a good six off!
Still, David felt a bit of concern wash over him as he took in how pale Lucas' skin was, how his fingers and lips were turning blue so slowly. He watched him stumble, almost as if he was uncertain on his feet.

"Lucas?" He called. Said male paused, blinking up at David, blinking away some form of confusion from his eyes.

"O-Oh, uh, ye-ah?" Lucas answered, trying to stand up straighter. With a worried frown, David stalked closer, leaning forwards slightly to scan Lucas.
Even being this close to him, David noticed how the others aura felt a little weaker then when they left. Without saying anything, he carefully grabbed the others wrist— Lucas noted that it felt like he was acting like a single movement would break him, like a porcelain doll. Still, he didn't resist as the Ice mage raised his arm slowly, revealing that the abnormally pale skin wasn't skin— Lucas was frosting over.
The two stared incredulous for a second, blinking slowly to make certain what they were seeing was right. Lucas couldn't let out anything besides a shaky 'oh'. David immediately felt his concern grow tenfold.

"This isn't normal, and all you can say is 'oh'?" He let Lucas' arm drop, which immediately wrapped around the Water mages middle in an attempt to preserve whatever heat he still had.

"T-To be fai... fair, it's neg-gative what here? W-Water freezes at z-zero, y'know." Silence settled over them, David looking absolutely flabbergasted. Lucas, the one person in the guild that they can definitely say is one of the most composed and organized people, was standing here and letting his body physically freeze over.
David was having none of it.

Lucas wasn't exactly certain when David had stripped his jacket off, or when it had swallowed his form, but there he was, drowning in a surprisingly heavy fabric that was a lot warmer than he thought it would be.
David looked Lucas over as it took a good minute for the Water mage to buffer the action. Now, he normally doesn't notice these things— especially about his guild-mates— but he couldn't help realize how small Lucas was. Sure, they were both of similar height, with David being taller by a few inches, but the meat and muscle the Ice mage had was simply lean muscle on the other. Sure, Lucas was strong— very strong— but you couldn't tell just by looking at him. He was thin, which made Davids jacket that much bigger on him. In a sort of 'looking from afar way', David had to admit, he looked kinda cute like that.
Once they both managed to shake themselves from their thoughts, they turned around and continued forwards without another word. It was silent, but comfortable in a way only they could indulge.
They were definitely happy to have each other and be as close as they were. They wouldn't trade it for anything.
