The kings guard were heavily banging on the door of our cottage . Ripping us from sleep . Telling us to get out of bed. They are now demanding payment of taxes. My family is so far behind in paying taxes . Every Elf family is required to pay taxes to the king . When my mom got sick we fell behind in payments further and further . They gave us a grace period to pay the money back ,but we could not catch up. Now they are saying the penalty is imprisonment for our entire family . Or a servant that will spend their life serving the palace .
If my mother goes to prison she will die . My father has to work and take care of my mother . That leaves only me . I have not yet turned 18 and am not of age yet . My fathers sad eyes look at me pain written all over his face .
Dad: I'm so sorry Astrid.
Astrid: It's okay . I say with a shakey voice.I know Father . I'm young , and healthy . I'm the only option we have or we will all be imprisoned.
Guard: She looks to young all slaves have to be of age the head gaurd says .

The guards sign a contract with my family stating. On arrival to the palace . The debt will be exchanged in full for my service. The rest of my life must be spent in Alfeim serving the palace and the Elf King . I sign the contract signing my life away . In order to save my family .
The kings guards leave ,but not before telling me they will be back in 1 week on my 18th birthday to collect me . My father was already willing to offer me up . He didn't even put up a fight . Even know i volunteered . So my mother can survive, and i love my parents very much . It still hurts . To not even see him take a stand at all. Or try to suggest anything else .
