(Alex POV)

Well the kid seems to be getting better at fighting so that's good. Oscar then tried to do a high kick in an attempt to harm me, but I was able to grab it as he looked shocked at this. I then used my left leg to sweep the one leg he was using to stand, making him fall on the ground as I let go of his other leg.

"You keep forgetting to keep your back stable and you move a bit slower than how fast you should be moving when you kick, remember that." I said. "Is it sad you are going easier on me and I still haven't won one round?" Oscar asked. "Well you have been getting closer and almost got me once so take it as you will." I said.

I held my hand out as Oscar got one one knee, but he took my hand and I helped pull him up. "I swear if I had The Long Memory I probably would have won." Oscar said. "Yeah if we could use my weapons one blast from my armor would send you into next week." I said. "Probably true." Oscar said.

Oscar then walked over to the floor and picked up Ozpin's cane as I heard footsteps come our way from the stairs. I walk forward a bit to see Ruby walking down the stairs as I smile towards her and she begins to smile as I notice her. "He's getting really better, huh?" Ruby asked. "You know it." I said as I turned to Oscar as he was looking at Ruby and I holding the cane.

"Are you guys hungry? It's almost dinnertime." Ruby said. "I could use a meal." I said. "Uh, yeah. That sounds good. I was about to ask Alex if we could call it a night anyway." Oscar asked. "So, you've never fought before?" Ruby asked the newest member of the team. "Just the occasional small Grimm. Nothing like this, though." Oscar said. "Wow." Ruby said before giggling. "He looked like a natural." Ruby said, looking at me. "I know and at the rate he is going I might be the one who keeps falling." I said.

"It's strange, I have only had this cane for a few weeks, but... I feel like I've had it for a lifetime. Longer, even." Oscar said, taking a long pause between his next sentence. "I sound like a crazy person." Oscar said. "Well I talk to a guy who is blue and who has been around Remnant before almost all of us so I guess there is a lot of weird to go around." I said as Oscar smiles and chuckles. "Thanks." Oscar said. "Yeah and at this pace, you'll be combat ready in no time!" Ruby said before frowning as she said Penny's phrase at the end.

Oh shit, I still haven't told her and the others about Penny! I really gotta write this stuff down so I don't forget. I look at Oscar, who seems to notice this and is about to ask a question before Ruby interrupts him. "Well, see you two upstairs." Ruby said not really wanting to talk about Penny.

As Ruby turns around to walk upstairs I notice Oscar looking at me and then Ruby. "How do you two handle all of this?" Oscar asked out of nowhere. Ruby then turned back around as both of us looked at him.

"What do you mean?" Ruby asked. "I'm... scared." Oscar admitted. "It is normal to feel fear." I said. "Easy for you to say, you guys fight Grimm and people a lot while I haven't even killed much less than a single Beowolf once in my life. I'm more scared than I've ever been in my life, than I ever thought was possible." Oscar said with his voice cracking a bit at the beginning.

He walks over to a weapon rack facing away from Ruby and I as we look at eachother then look at Oscar. "I always knew that I wanted to be more than a farmhand, but this?" Oscar asked as he placed the cane in the rack. "Who would ask for this?" Oscar asked.

He glances down at the floor as a tear drips from his eye. He sniffles before kneeling to the floor to reach his backpack. He grabs the cane off the rack and pulls the lever on the handle to compact it before putting it in his backpack. I then walked over to him and patted him on the back, making look at me and Ruby as she stood behind me. "We didn't." I said.
