Chapter 10: Welcome to Haven

(Alex POV)

We made it. We actually f'n made it. It's funny I remember how much traveling, jobs, and all the nights we slept in the forest to get here and yet it all still seems like yesterday Ruby, Jaune, Noran, Ren and I journeyed here from Ruby's house back at Patch. Now finally, after what seems like months of traveling we finally got here.

"The City of Mistral..." Qrow said. "Ugh! It's about time!" Nora said. Qrow and the rest of us or what our team name currently being Team RNNJR were walking through a stone brick tunnel illuminated by translucent lanterns.

"Whose idea was it to walk again?" Nora asked. "I'm going to randomly assume it was the one who came up with the idea to come here in the first place." I said pointing to Ruby. The red hooded reaper then pointed at me and smirked. "Well we did have the option to use an aircraft and yet someone shot that idea down." Ruby said. "Touche." I said. We then both gigiled as we held hands while we smiled.

Is it wrong to feel worried considering everything seems to be going our way for once? If not then I always want to feel worried because it feels so good. "Well, we did face many obstacles. Broken airships, destroyed settlements..." Ren said. "Oh, and, you know, all those people and monsters that tried to murder us. Oh and let's not forget we fought the devil in our friend's body." Jaune said. "I said I was sorry." I said and then groaned considering it is going to be a while until he is over that.

"Pfft, we were fine. Alex took back control and only one of us almost died." Ruby said looking at Qrow with an even bigger smile. "Hey." Qrow said, looking back at Ruby, smiling. Nora puts her hands on her hips and looks at Ren. "Hey." Ren said, looking at her redhead teammate. Seeing this makes Nora giggle in response. "So, how much farther to Haven Academy?" Jaune asked. "Almost there. But I figured I'd take you kids on the scenic route." Qrow said. "Yeah, because looking at a bunch of bricks is breathtaking." I said. "Just you wait." Qrow said.

All of us then approach a pair of large, wooden double doors, which Qrow opens, flooding the tunnel with sunlight and it momentarily blinds me. Once I could see again I watched as Ruby ran out onto a massive platform, stopping at the railing to gaze out over the city in wide-eyed awe. "Wow!" Ruby said.

The rest of us joined our leader to take in the view of buildings and stone stairways perched on mountains. "This... is... awesome!" Ruby said. And I thought the city was beautiful from a distance. "This is... I don't even know what to say... astonishing?" I said, trying to find the right word. I looked down below the platform to see large crowds of people going about their day - walking around, talking and buying merchandise. "It's certainly something." Qrow said. "You can say that again old man." I said as I felt him glare at me.

I looked over to Ruby noticing she was observing a kiosk selling weapons a few levels below us. "Oh my gosh, look at all the weapons! Do you see that Alex?!" Ruby asked, turning towards me, then wrapping her arms around my sides and shaking me. "Yes I do." I said before Ruby stopped shaking me and looked back at the kiosks. "Vendors here'll sell you just about anything... whether they should or not." Qrow said. "Don't tempt me." I said as a joke.

"They really made the most out of these mountains." Jaune said. "Every inch. Stay away from the lower levels. The higher up you go, the nicer it gets." Qrow said. "And we are going up!" Nora said pointing up. "You heard the lady let's go to Haven and then let's do some sight seeing." I said walking over to a panel that had multiple buttons on it. I pushed the highest button and we were then lifted higher and higher up.

XXX Time Skip XXX

We may be high, but my spirit didn't feel like it for some reason. We were in the courtyard of Haven after taking a few twists and turns and so far we haven't come across one student or professor. I am happy we finally made it, but in my stomach there is something screaming that something bad is going on. I looked at the others to see how they were doing and saw them all smiling, so I decided to put a fake one on and just ignore that feeling in my gut.
