The next day, the two of them awoke in a haze, drunk on love and the night before. As Jean went to get out of bed to start getting ready for the day, she felt the two arms that were snaked around her waist pull her in closer.
"Jeanie, babe, can't we just stay hidden in our little paradise?" he whispered into her hair, his morning voice deep and scratchy. "Spencer, we have to go to work, do you know how bad it would look if we both skipped and called in sick" Jean groaned back in response.
"I know, Jeanie, but is it so wrong of me to dream of spending another day with you?" Spencer said, his 5 o'clock shadow grazing her cheek softly. Jean sighed and leaned back into Spencer's chest to relish the next few minutes they would spend together before their jobs would call them back to reality.
A comfortable silence overcame the two lovers as they laid together. Eventually, as the light streaming in from the window became too obvious to ignore, Jean detached herself from Spencer and headed to the bathroom to clean up for work. As she walked into the bathroom, she glanced back to drink in the sight of Spencer lounging in her bed, his surprisingly defined chest showing from behind the white sheets and his hair a mess from last night's antics.
An hour later after a quick stop at Spencer's apartment, the duo walked in together all smiles. When the elevator arrived onto their floor, they quickly untangled their hands and walked to their desks.
"Pretty boy! What's that on your neck?" Derek shouted as Spencer sat down at his desk. "I, um, burned myself" Reid stuttered out. "Sure thing, Reid, and I was born yesterday" Derek said with a boisterous laugh. Spencer's face continued to turn red, even as Morgan walked away from him because standing on the top looking down at everyone was Hotch.
Jean sat at her desk with her headphones in working on paperwork , bopping her head along to the songs of The Lumineers and was none the wiser to what was going on as she failed to see Hotchner angrily stalk back into his office after hearing the exchange between Derek and Spencer.
The team had gathered around the round table for a quick game of cards around lunchtime to take a quick break from work. As Jean laughed at something Emily had said, a hand gently placed a cup of coffee in front of her. Jean looks up to find Spencer settling into the chair beside her with a smile. "I went on a quick coffee run and remembered from this morning that you like your coffee with two packs of sugar" he said with a squeeze to her knee under the table.
"Jean, you went to our coffee place without me?" Garcia questioned as she lowered her pink-rimmed glasses down the bridge of her nose. Jean could feel her face beginning to heat up at Garcia's question and quickly tried to come up with a response as she felt Hotch's eyes burning into her.
"I would never go without you, Penelope" Jean responded. "What do you mean but you went this morning with Spen- oh, OH" Garcia gasped as she connected the dots that Spencer and Jean were together this morning.
Garcia fumbled for her phone, quickly making an excuse that she had to make a call to leave the awkwardness that hung over the room. The team slowly disbanded afterwards and returned to work rather than to deal with the uncomfortable energy that had filled the room. As Jean returned to her desk, she was summoned by a command from Agent Hotchner demanding that she come to his office.
Jean walked in and closed the door gently as she settled into one of the seats in front of Hotch's desk. "Agent Sanders, if you would like to proceed with a relationship with Agent Reid, you will have to go through the proper channels and fill out the appropriate documents" he said with a scowl.
"You've got to be kidding me right now? I am not in a relationship with Spence" Jean replied calmly. "Spence? You mean Dr. Reid, Agent Sanders?" he questioned harshly.
"Aaron, what do you want from me?" Jean said softly as she looked at him. Hotch's mind was trying to find the right words to say as he got up from behind his desk and sat in the other chair besides Jean. He touched her knee and Jean let out a gasp. As mad as she was at the older man, she couldn't deny that his touch was electric against her skin.
"Jeanette, I want-" he said and as he went to say words that had the possibility to change their entire future, JJ walked in. Hotch jumped apart from her and quickly sprang up, clearly embarrassed. JJ cleared her throat and said, "Sir, we have a case in Las Vegas, Nevada". "Assemble the team and tell them wheels up in 30, we'll debrief on the plane" he said as he left his office, leaving Jean alone in his office to wonder what the words she'll never hear were.
Author's Note: This chapter was a little short but the next one is much longer, don't worry! Since this one was such a short chapter, I might finish up and post the next one even sooner
