Weeks passed as Jean began to find herself at peace back in her old life. She was back with her amazing team, Spence and her were hanging out 24/7, and Hotch was... well Hotch.
She hadn't seen much of him as he stayed holed up in his office to the wee hours of the morning. He had begun to develop five o'clock shadow, which Jean was secretly quite fond of. The radio silence between the two was deafening as he continued to keep his space from her. She couldn't decide whether or not it felt right, being without him like this.
However, Jean knew that Spencer felt right.
She pushed Hotch to the back of her mind as she tried to continue to focus on her work and think of the sweet young man in front of her, not the gruff older man in his office.
"Penny for your thoughts, Jeanie?" Spencer whispered to her. "Nothing going on up in my head, Spence. Simply stated, head empty, no thoughts" she laughed.
"Jeanie, would you go out with me tonight?" he asked, his eyes crinkling as he gave her a deep smile.
"Of course, Reid" Jean responded, getting up to get some coffee and giving him a wink as she turned to walk to the kitchen. She bent down to grab the milk out of the fridge and as she was searching for it in the mountains of groceries in the fridge, she felt two strong hands place themselves upon her hips.
Jean gulped.
She would recognize those rough hands anywhere.
"Jesus, Hotch, people can see us" Jean whisper-shouted as she began to feel her skin heat up the longer his hands stayed pressed against her hips. She instinctively leaned back into him, reviling in the touch she oh so missed.
"I just wanted to stop in and say I missed you, Jeanette" he said, pressing a kiss against the nape of her neck. "I know we haven't talked much but I want to. Soon" he said as he squeezed her hips.
As he went in to give her another small kiss, Emily walked into the kitchen, shocking both of them.
"Sanders, as you can see, the creamer is over there" he said as he leaned from behind her and grabbed the creamer from all the way in the back, covering up for the fact that he and Jean were getting intimate in the kitchen mere seconds ago.
"Here you go, Jeanette. Please make sure to drop off the report you're working on whenever you get a chance" he said strictly as he made his way out the room, completely avoiding making eye contact with Prentiss.
Jean quietly continued making her coffee as Prentiss eyeballed her. "Jean Sanders, is there something you're not telling me? You're not banging our boss, are you?" she laughed, not knowing what she spoke was true.
"Wouldn't that be something?" Jean responded with a light smile, hoping to not show any signs of deceit as Prentiss was a profiler, a damn good one at that, and would be able to spot her lie if she got a good chance to read her body language and her eyes.
She darted out of the room and made her way back to her seat, quickly finishing her report and handing it off to Derek to turn in for her so she could avoid seeing Hotch.
Flash forward several hours later and she was getting ready for her dinner date with Spencer. She applied light makeup to go along with her green cargo pants and a white tank top.
She smiled to herself in the mirror and began to head back to her room to grab her keys when she heard the doorbell ring. She practically skipped down the stairs, elated that Spencer was here, when she swung the door open and was shocked to find Hotch.
"Jean, l have to tell you what's on my mind" he spoke, his eyes heavy with emotion as they stood on her doorstep. She began to open the door to let him into her house, when the sound of a car door slamming sent their heads turning in the direction of the noise.
Spencer practically ran over to the duo.
"What are you doing here, Hotch?" he said softly, unsure of what this meant for the future of his and Jean's budding relationship.
"I need to talk to Jean. Urgently" he spoke and as he opened his mouth to speak again, his phone rang. "Damn it" he said, declining the call as he looked back to Jean to lay his heart out in front of her.
The phone rang again.
"Aaron Hotchner speaking" he barked into the phone, angry at whoever was calling. He listened intently for several minutes as whoever was on the other end spoke and ended the call with, "We'll be there soon. Try and hold this information from the press as long as you can. This is going to get ugly and fast".
He let out a large sigh as he slid his phone back into his pocket and ran a hand through his hair, clearly frustrated. "We have a case".
Author's Note: Sorry for the short chapter!
After I finish this story, I am planning on writing ANOTHER love triangle story with Hotch and Spencer, but this time making it a college AU where Hotch is a professor, she's a student, and Spence is a fellow student/TA so be on the lookout ;))))
