It had been a few hours since the incident had happened. Your tears had long since dried, the blood caking your forehead having already been washed away.
It was around 10:00 when made your way to the bathroom directly adjacent to your room, grabbing a washcloth on your way. You walked across the hall, not taking heed of the creaking floorboards beneath your feet. There was really no need to, as your father had left your house earlier that day, speeding away in his car after his conversation with your mother.
You closed the oak door behind you, cold tile sending shocks through your feet as you trudged over to the sink. You turned on the faucet, watching the water flow out in a steady stream. You could vaguely see the pinkish hue of your nightdress reflecting against the rushing fluid. You pushed the washcloth underneath the water, watching as it spread across the cloth, soaking it until the towel was completely saturated with water.
Carefully, you raised it up to your face, gently caressing the area on your cheek where a whisper of a bruise was starting to form. You gingerly wiped the damp towel against your cheek, before moving it up a bit to clean a few spots of blood that had managed to adhere to your forehead. After you were sure that your face was a bit more sterile, you placed the cloth down beside the sink basin, turning on the faucet yet again and letting the water run over your delicate fingers. You leaned down, splashing a bit of the chilled water up onto your face. Your slender digits rubbed over your features, taking care to not put too much pressure on your cheek. You turned off the faucet, opting to rub against your face with a plush hand towel, effectively soaking up the scarce droplets of water that remained on your face.
You looked up, bringing your eyes back up to the mirror in front of you. In the cloudy reflection, you observed your face, your features slightly illuminated by the flickering lightbulb above your head. You let your gaze drift to the area beside your face in the mirror and...
Wait.
"W-Wha.." you gasped out, trailing off as your eyes landed on a shadowy form in the corner of the bathroom. The figure's only discernible features were two glinting orbs near the top of the shadow, their glaring yellowing hue bouncing off the mirror in front of you.
You whipped around, trying to see the ominous figure that you hoped was just your imagination. You exhaled, seeing that nothing was in the corner of the room any more. You took a step forward, hoping to make it out of the bathroom before you had any more delusions. However, as soon as you did so, the light behind you flickered completely out, causing the room to fall into a state of thick, palpable darkness.
You turned back around, now frenzied and fearful. You reached for the light switch, trying to illuminate the small bathroom once more.
'Come on just reach, this is your imagination, it's fine this is actually happeni-'
Your thoughts were cut off as you became acutely aware of a presence behind you.
Slowly, you felt something come to rest on your shoulder, the slight wetness that seemed to accompany whatever was touching you seeping through the sleeve of your nightdress.
The light flicked on once again.
You slowly began to turn around, body shaking, lip trembling. As your eyes landed on whatever was in front of you, you let out a high pitched yelp, clamping your hand over your mouth and effectively muffling your cry as you jumped backwards.
