Confession Delay

Aya POV Present

I had just left Redd and Aidan alone, I had to get to my post on the roof and help out what's left of our snipers. On the way up the stairs I bumped into Zoey, who had her helmet off, her brown hair that used to almost glisten is now dirtied and covering part of her face, she had landed down in Kings recently so I don't think she was prepared, she always has been the softer one of the Sangson twins. "Hey Aya." Zoey said to me, she sounded exhausted, mind you we all are. I soon replied "Hey Zoey, I guess it's your turn to sleep?" I asked the last part, She nodded slowly, this really must have taken a lot out of her system. She walks past me and I keep walking up the stairs, there's all the civilians, they probably don't even know what's going on at this point. I couldn't do anything but keep walking down the hall, some of the civilians look up at me, though one stood out, a small girl, probably around 4 or 5 who was alone holding a small doll of a Spartan who looked a lot like Alaska, I decide to go over to her, the second she hears me walking over she turns around and does a sloppy salute, I just giggle a bit. "Hey little one." I say softly as I crouch by her. "H-hello." She says, pretty embarrassed, she had a faint blush on her cheeks and was trying to not look at me now. "Why are you alone?" I ask her, hoping her parents were around here somewhere. She soon answered "I don't know anyone here miss, but the big red man said he'd try find them if he could." I smile under my helmet, Redd was always one to try and keep kids happy. "Do you know where they could be?" I ask her, hoping she might know. "No, I was at school and they were at work when this started miss, sorry." She says, my heart broke a tiny bit hearing this. "Well, we'll try to find them, and if it!s okay with you, can I take you to the other kids? I know you might not know them but being alone isn't as fun is it?" I say, hoping to at least get her some new friends. Her eyes brighten up at the mention of the other kids. "Oh they never let me play with them, but with a hero like you asking for me, then thy can't say no!" She says, really excited and she hugs my armoured leg. I pick her up and walk over to the other kids, who all quickly turn their attention to me and the little girl, I crouch down and let her jump onto the floor. "Hey, is it okay if..." I stop talking and look at the little girl, she seemed to understand what I was meaning. "Amy." She says, now blushing a bit, she must be shy. "If Amy can play with you." I said, clearing up my visor afterwards. "Yeah, sure why not." One of the younger boys said and he runs over to Amy and takes her over to the rest of them. I smile under my helmet. "Thanks Miss, I hole I see you again." Amy says to me before running off with the other kids. I stand up and hear a light chuckle behind me, I quickly turn around and my heart skips a beat before I do a quick salute. "Calm down Lieutenant." Redd says to me. I laugh a bit. "Sorry Redd, just used to it still." He clears his visor up. "Nice job with those kids, maybe the military shouldn't have been your path. I could see you being a teacher." He says softly, probably remembering something. "Anyone can be a teacher Marcus." I reply back. He smiles a bit. "Well it takes specific people to make a good teacher. Anyway, we have a problem." He says suddenly. "What is it? More drops missing?" I ask, we had too many setbacks recently, sure we had made progress in the city but we were spread thin as it was, with both soldiers and supplies, and with us all the food and water were going to the civilians. "No, we had a report of an officer sighting, now you may not know this but we aren't at war with just ONI, there's another group called New Dawn that we're dealing with, a cult who support 2 madmen called Rex and Blade, Rex and Blade have a PMC and claim not to have any other agenda but I know them better, that and I did some digging. These guys we're fighting are a mix of the PMC and New Dawn. The officer sighted is some maniac that leads New Dawn with her 2 brothers called April King, she's here in the city, and that isn't a good thing for anyone." Marcus said to me, I looked at him a bit shocked as he took his helmet off and he placed it on his belt. "So what's the plan?" I asked him, he leans back against the wall. "We wait." He replies. "WHAT, ARE YOU SERIOUS?" I heard a high pitched voice then Kris came round the corner, was he listening into our conversation. "Kris, calm down." Redd says to Kris, it seemed less like him actually trying to calm him down, but more of an order. "NO, WE CAN'T WAIT WHILE THAT... THAT, PSYCHO IS OUT THERE!" Kris quickly says back. Redd shakes his head and he puts his helmet back on. "Kris, stand down. I know how you're feeling. And I see you going to speak, let me fucking finish! We can't do jack shit about the cunt just now, so fucking get off your high horse, get your fucking composure back and chill the fuck out." Redd says, it seems Kris just pissed him off. "Marcus, you can't seriously think we can sit here and fucking wait while that evil slag is in this city, we have fucking children here man." Kris quickly hits back with. Marcus sighs and he shakes his head. "Kris, get back to the tech area and do whatever you techs fucking do, I'm not dealing with you just now." Marcus says to him and he turns to walk away. "But." Kris goes to say but is quickly caught off by Marcus shouting at him. "THAT MEANS NOW, CORPORAL!" I jumped a bit at Marcus shouting, he rarely does it and usually keeps his cool. Kris quickly turns away and walks back to the tech area, mumbling fucks and buggers as he goes. I go over to Marcus. "Redd? Come on, lets just go and chill out, maybe get something to eat." I say, trying to calm him down. He sighs and shakes his head a bit. "Nah, I'm fine, I need to get the situation calmed, you go relax, I'll get Ryder to fill in for you on the roof, he's bored as it is and needs something to do." And with that, he walks away. I sigh and mumble afucm under my breath. I turn back to where the kids went and I go after them, eventually I found them in an old Nursery play area and I sit down on a table and I take my helmet off, letting my short brown hair loose, I sigh and take a look in the mirror on the desk I was sitting on, taking in my features, I looked worse for wear, 2 new scars on my face, one going down my cheek from the side of my eye and another that was on the bridge of my nose, my originally well kept hair was how dirty and flew about everywhere, making me look like I had a night of rough sex, my eyes had bags under them from the lack of sleep and my originally tanned skin was now extremely pale, I looked ill almost. I sigh and set the mirror down and watched the kids play, seeing Amy laughing while playing with that boy who basically dragged her to join the group and another girl who looked a year older than her. I smile a bit, even with all the hell happening around us, they still find some sort of joy. Suddenly time seemed to stop as an explosion went off next to the nursery, I saw the kids quickly turn to the noise as the wall was blown apart, I reacted quickly and ran over to them, time feeling slower than normal and I use the desk I was sitting at to block the debris, some stray parts hitting my armour, I quickly turned around, seeing one of them got hit in the head, killing the 7 year old boy that seemed to be watching over everyone, 2 of the kids turned to him and screamed his name before starting to shake him. I grab my helmet off the floor and I put it on. "COME ON, WE HAVE TO GO." I shout at them, suddenly gunfire erupts going through the windows, another 2 kids got killed and one got shot in the shoulder, I used my body to block other incoming shots, my shields barely keeping myself safe before I oicked up the wounded girl, she must be 6. "Get to the door, NOW!" I tell them, most of them conply but the 2 mourning over the boy didn't budge, I picm both of them up for them to shout st me to put them down. I run out the classroom and block the door. Outside the small Nursery was 3 Spartans, one in red and yellow armour, the exact same set as Redd, another with Red and Black as his colours with Centurion armour and a MARK6 Satrap helmet and I recognised the other one as Laura. Laura was the first to notice me. "Aya! Come on, we have to go. They're using artillery to hammer the school!" She basically shouts at me before seeing the crying kids. The Red and Yellow Spartan speaks up, he seemed more experienced than Laura and the other male. "Laura, Jimmy, get those kids out of here, Aya get to the bottom floor, the others need help securing the entrance so we can get the civilians out of this school." He said quickly, both Laura and Jimmy started moving the kids away, a sniper shot soon fired off and hit the red and yellow spartan in the soldier, though he quickly reacted and started shooting back at the sniper with his BR. "Sontoro when I said get down there I meant it, we'll keep these kids safe, now go!" He said, I quickly run off and make my way down to the entrance, while running down the stairs I see Zoey lying on the ground, her helmet off and a piece of rebar going through her chest, her cold dead eyes staring at me. I choke and quickly crouch by her body, I check for her dog tags but they were already taken, so I slide my hand over her eyes and shut them. "I'm sorry Zoey." I say, tearing up before running down the stairs, and just like that one of my best friends were dead, and ai couldn't do anything for her. Eventually I made it to the bottom, seeing Aidan, Alaska, Ace, Hannah, Kris, Raven and Green. I quickly run up to them and help them out, shooting at the onslaught of hostiles pushing us. "You took your sweet as time Sontoro!" Alaska shouted over the gunfire. "I came as fast as I could!" I shouted back and I threw a grenade into a group of them. I ducked down to reload and I look up to see Ace getting his shields taken out then a sniper round going into his stomach. "ACE!" I shout before pulling him into cover and I start putting pressure on his stomach injury. He takes his helmet off to breath easier. "MEDIC!" I shout at the top of my lungs, after a minute a medic runs over and he slides onto the ground next to us. "Go, I'll handle this, the left flank is getting hammered." I nod to the medic and run off to the left flank, seeing Ryder, Domino, an ODST who I'm pretty sure Redd brought back recently, Grim, the red and yellow spartan from earlier and another Spartan who I didn't know, I quickly fall in line with them, these hostiles were mostly Spartans, and they were good. It was only a matter of time until they pushed through, until we saw them getting taken down by something. Eventually we see a cloaked figure getting shot, causing them to appear, the person helping out was Ghost, someone I didn't talk to often but I knew who she was, since she was one of the few people who didn't like me still, she runs over to us and hides behind cover with her SMG, her thigh bleeding a bit. "Hey Sontoro a little birdie told me that you need to get to the right flank, they've lost their first line." She says to me, I nod in response and when I see an opening I ran. When I arrived there I saw Redd pulling his energy sword from a dead spartans back, his visor was cracked and he had a knife in his left shoulder. Another spartan ran up behind him but he just punched them in the face, breaking their visor, before finishing them off with the knife that was in his shoulder. He then grabs his BR from the ground and starts shooting back, I quickly joined him. "Hey Aya. So I was thinking, after this whole city war bullshit gets done, do you want to go and grab some coffee?" Redd says to me, I was currently reloading my AR but I dropped my mag when he asked. I felt myself blushing and I put the mag into my rifle beffore shooting again. "Are you serious,y asking me out right now? In the middle of a firefight where we could die at any minute?" Is shout to him. He laughs a bit and shouts back. "What better time to ask?" I smile under my helmet. "Only if you pay!" I shout back before going to reload. "Wouldn't have it any other way." He replies to me theough the radio. I then hear an enemy soldier shout at us. "YOU CAN GET THAT COFFEE IN HE-." He gets cut off bu a round going through his head, I turned to see Marcus had shot him. "FUCK YOU, I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE YET." I laugh a bit and we continue having a back and forth, and by we I mean me, Marcus and some random soldier who kept yelling how he didn't want to kill us now. It was all pretty funny, but eventually the firefight stopped and the guys started to run away. I laugh and hug Redd, he quickly hugs me back basically picking me up. "That was fucking AWESOME!" I shout and laugh. He puts me down and laughs a bit. "I didn't know you had that in you."
