"Ms. Watson!" I looked up away from the glowing screen of my cell phone to see Mr. Anderson standing at the chalk board, looking expectantly back at me.
"Yes?" I asked, I wasn't totally paying attention, I mean why would I? It was the last day of school and I was only there so I wouldn't get a detention.
"Were you even listening?" Mr. Anderson asked in his 70 year old man voice, even though he was only 42. He pulled his half moon glasses of his face and looked over at me angrily.
"No sir, I was not." I said as a few people snickered behind me. I slipped my phone into the back pocket of my jeans and looked back at him.
"Olivia, it's the last day of classes, can't you at least pretend?" He asked as he crossed his arms, getting a bit of white chalk on his dark blue shirt.
I sighed and then sat up in my seat, I knew what I was about to say wasn't going to be the right answer, but honestly I didn't care, there was only 5 minutes left of class. "With all due respect, Sir. That's the reason I'm not even pretending, you see I think it's kind of pointless that we have to be here when the seniors don't have to."
My brother and Sam had graduated a few days earlier and weren't forced to come back to classes with the rest of us after the ceremony.
I saw Mr. Anderson's lips purse and there were a few whispers in the back of the classroom. Surprisingly all he said was, "Well played, Watson."
I sighed and leaned back in my chair as he turned his attention back to Meredith Mindy who still did not understand what a heterotrophic organism was, on the last day of Biology. The last 5 minutes went by extra slow, it was never ending. I looked out the window into the sunny spring weather. There weren’t any trees except for those in the school garden, but those two trees were fully in bloom and made the parking lot look a lot friendlier. I squinted as I saw a familiar car parked in the lot next to the school. I smiled as I realized that it was Sam.
I waited patiently for the final bell to ring. Those last few seconds before you are finally free are always the longest. It always reminds me of that first scene in High School Musical 2 (yes I watched High School Musical), where they are all sitting in the classroom and the giant clock is ticking away. It’s like that, only I don’t run into the hall dancing.
Finally the lovely sound of the bell rang through the school and everyone jumped out of their seats, scrambling for the door as Mr. Anderson called out a surprised, “Well have a nice summer!” As if he didn’t expect the day to end so soon.
I walked out into the crowded hallway and looked down at my phone. There was one new message from Sam. ‘Come out to the parking lot.. We’re going on a trip ;)’ I smiled, knowing that his definition of ‘trip’ was not the same as most people’s. His usually involved excessive amounts of drugs or alcohol.
I walked to my mostly empty locker and spun in the combination for one last time.
1-12-25. there was click and I pulled the door open right when a male figure appeared next to me, pushing the little freshman, who shared a locker next to mine, out of the way. “Hey.” He said, smiling a little.
“Hi.” I said, looking up at him and frowning as I pulled my leather purse onto my shoulder.
He smirked and moved closer to me, I could almost feel like breath on my neck. “You know, you’re really hot for a Goth.”
I looked up at him and raised my eyebrows. “OK first thing, I’m not Goth and second thing. Why the hell are you talking to me?” I crossed my arms and looked up into his pale blue eyes.
“Come on, Olivia, don’t be like that.” He said, putting his hands on my hips and pulling me closer to him. I put my hands on his strong chest and tried to push him away.
