Chapter Five: Inconvenience
Two hours later, we were no closer to getting rid of the girls than we were at the beginning. We'd gone from booth to booth sampling ale and making idle conversation. Well, the girls were making the idle conversation. I'd barely had a chance to say anything since we met them, and every time I tried to say something, they always cut me off.
Erica and Dido were absolutely fawning on 'Luke' and Adamma, Clarme, and Lucile were sticking to me like glue. They were all batting their eyelashes, stroking my arms, and giving unsubtle hints about their opinion of me.
"Come on Gabriel!" said Adamma pulling me towards yet another stand. I groaned inwardly, we'd been to at least thirty stands since we started walking. I was ready to heave up all the ale I'd consumed.
Adamma," Clarme said, "Can't you see he doesn't want another drink? Look how flushed his face is. I think he's about to collapse from heat fever! Why don't you go get a damp cloth to put on his forehead?" Perking up at the idea of 'nursing the wounded man' Adamma rushed off to get a cloth. Lucile quickly took my other arm now that it was abandoned and they both pulled me towards a tent. This isn't going to go over well, I thought. In vain I watched Luna get dragged away by Erica and Dido to yet another stand. We locked eyes and shared a pained expression but there was really nothing we could do.
Before we went inside, Lucile stuck her head and checked to see that it was empty. Satisfied that it wasn't full of people, she pulled me in. "Let's sit in here," she said. "You look as if you're about to faint. Stay in here a bit with us until Adamma gets back with the cloth.
"Thanks." I said, happy to have an excuse to sit down. We headed toward a bench and I sat. Relaxing, I leaned my head back against the tent and closed my eyes. I wasn't used to walking around in the heat for so long. Not to mention that with all the ale I'd been forced to taste, I was starting to get fuzzyheaded again.
As I was dwelling on these little things, I didn't notice Lucile and Clarme creeping closer to me. "So Gabriel," she asked innocently, "What do you think of us?"
"No special feeling in particular," I said worried where this conversation was going. "Why?"
"Oh, no reason." Clarme said. Then they sat down opposite of me and placed their hands on either of my legs.
I really don't like the way this is going, I thought. I'd had my fair share of girls from my villiage but with my life in danger now I really wasn't interested in spending much time with them. Besides Luna that is.
"Well I..." I was pulling up a blank in my mind. How do you tell someone you don't like them without offending them? I'd never rejected a girl before.
Clarme and Lucile leaned in closer to my face. "We think you're amazing," Clarme said. Lucile nodded her head in agreement. They were getting a bit too close for my taste.
"I really don't---."
"Shh," Lucile whispered sliding her hand down my chest. "Just be quiet for a moment."
"Yes," Clarme agreed, "Give us a chance to show you how we really feel."
Crap, I thought. My brain wasn't thinking from all this alcohol they had pumped into me. Not like they hadn't planned it that way. If only I had more time to think of a plan to get out of this. I didn't have much time either, their hands were drifting and before I knew it they could be---."
"Gabriel," said a voice. The girls turned around and I looked up to see Luna standing in the doorway looking at the situation with alarmed eyes. "What's going on?"
