Charli's pov:
"Char!" Dixies voice sounded from down the hall.
"Yesss?" I questioned, looking up from where I was sitting on my bed, waiting for her to come through my bedroom door.
She walked in, holding my phone up in one hand with her other hand on her hip. "You left your phone in the bathroom... Chase texted."
My heart skipped a beat hearing his name. I was lost. I hadn't talked to chase in about 2 months. We had broken up, sure, but we were also taking a little break from talking... completely. "Chase? Why?" I held my hand out and she gave me the phone.
"You're asking the wrong person sis, but like... what'd he say?" She asked, sitting down next to me on the bed as I unlocked my phone and opened the text thread.
Chase: I heard you're coming back to the hh soon, can't wait to see ya :)
I couldn't help the smile spreading across my face as I read.
I looked up at Dixie who'd read the message over my shoulder.
"Yo how do you feel?" She laughed. I knew she was teasing me but on a real note, I really missed chase. We broke up because I wasn't into all the drama, and I was upset about what went down with him and Nessa, but at the end of the day I knew chase was a good guy. He didn't mean to hurt me.
I felt like things between us just weren't finished.
I didn't say anything to Dixie, I just glared at her jokingly and shook my head.
I got up off the bed and walked to the other side of the room so that Dixie could no longer see my phone screen.
I sent a quick text back to Chase:
I'll be there this weekend! Miss you bud🥰I didn't think about what I'd said until after I'd already sent it. "Bud" ugh, maybe I had put my guard back up after all.
"Dix aren't you supposed to be taking Rebel on a walk?" I said, hinting that I wanted her to get out of my room.
She stood up from her position laying on my bed and said something to me, while still looking at her phone.
"If you get played again, it's your fault this time." She mumbled.
"Gooodbyeee," I chimed. I walked over to her, put my hands on her shoulders, spun her around and guided her out of my room.
After escorting Dixie out I walked back into my room and shut the door.
As I sat down to do my makeup to make tik toks, I couldn't help thinking about Chase.
Of course I'd had other boyfriends before him but Chase was my first love. I wasn't ready to let him go.
I went on with my day trying not to thing too much about Chase.
I went to hang out with a few of my hometown friends (we had all previously tested negative for COVID.) we got Chick-fil-a and ate it at a park while we talked.
I told them about Chase's text. They said that I was overreacting and that he was probably just being nice. Whatever. I loved my friends but ever since I got "the hype" on tik tok they started treating me different.
When we finished eating, the girls all said that they wanted to go home.
Lexi, who was the only one who drove in the friend group dropped me off first. I said goodbye to all my friends and walked into my house, where my parents were sitting in the living room watching a movie together.
"Hello Mr. and Mrs. D'amelio!" I said, sitting down in the chair next to them.
I opened Snapchat and started watching stories. Chase had posted a hottt selfie. I thought about sliding up but ended up just tapping past it.
I tapped through a few more stories until I saw Lexi's. Her and my other 2 "friends" were still hanging out. They were now at the mall.
If they were gonna lie to me about wanting to go home just to get rid of me, they could at least remember to take me off of their private stories...
I just thought it was so unfair that they started treating me like shit just because I'd made a few new friends in California because I happened to become tik tok famous.
I shut off my phone and shoved it in the pocket of my sweats, then I stood up and began walking to my room.
"You okay sweetie?" My mom called.
"Yea I'm fine!" I said in an upbeat tone.
"How was hanging out with your friends?" She continued the conversation from afar.
"It was... okay!" I shouted back, trying my best to sound like my normal, cheery self.
I got to my room, shut the door and flopped down on my bed.
It didn't matter that my old friends were fake, I was going to see my real friends in less than 3 days!
I got up to go change for bed but I was halfway to my closet when my phone started to ring.
I walked back over to my bed and picked it up. Chase was FaceTiming me.
I put a smile on my face and answered.
"Hey char," chase grinned over the phone.
"What's up Hudson?" I questioned.
"Nothing I just wanted to check in with you, see how you're doin'" he said.
"I'm good... is that the real reason you called?" I probed further.
"Well yes and no," he admitted. "I did wanna see how you're doing but also I wanted to tell you I miss you." He got more serious. "When you texted me back today you called me bud. Is that it? Am I in the friend zone for real?" He sounded pretty concerned.
"I don't know chaseee.." I said, looking away from the phone. "I think we should talk about this later, like when I get to LA."
"Yea okay." Agreed Chase. He sounded disappointed.
"Alright then I'll talk to you later!" I exclaimed, waving goodbye.
I hung up before he could say anything else.
Fuck.
Before I could have any more thoughts to myself Dixie barged in.
"Was that Chase I heard on the phone?" She inquired.
"Not right now, Dixie." I sighed, plopping back down on my bed and staring up at the ceiling.
