I was awake but yet to open my eyes. My brain was slowly drifting back to its conscious, away from the world which was far away from reality, full of imaginations called dreams.
"Sir?" Came a voice from a far away end or that's what it felt like.
"Sir.." It came again, along with a gentle shove to my shoulder. A gutteral sound escaped my mouth in protest. My head felt heavy and eyes like they were glued shut.
"Sir, please wake up. You will be late for work otherwise." Came the same voice again but this time it sounded familiar.
Forcing my eyes open I started sitting up whilst supporting weight of my head with my hand. Kwan came insight when my blurred vision cleared. Stretching his one hand forward he gave me a tablet, probably a painkiller, while his other hand held onto the glass of water.
I gladly took both of them from him and gulped down in one go.
"Good morning sir." He wished taking the empty glass from me.
I nodded in acknowledgement while resting my head against the headrest, closing my eyes momentarily. "What happened yesterday, Kwan?" I asked, remembering myself getting drunk the previous night.
His face wore the same grim expression showing his disapproval to my actions. "The usual. You getting drunk in a different bar, me tracking you down and then bringing you back here to your penthouse." He narrated in a monotone but still I caught the hint of accusation in it.
Somehow his tone irked me.
"If you are fed up of your duty then you can find a replacement for yourself Kwan." I stated. Maybe I wasn't in my best of moods today. Otherwise I wouldn't have minded him any other day.
"No, its not like that!" He started frantically, then sighed. "I am sorry sir. I didn't mean to offend you." He apologized cutting his rant, maybe realising that it was one of my mood swing.
"Okay. Get my breakfast ready. I'll go get freshen up." Commanding I pulled myself out of bed. He nodded his head mechanically then left.
*******
Reaching company in time, I went inside the elevator which was for private use only, of course not before scanning the floor making sure employees were doing their work for which they were paid off.
Elevator stopped at 26th floor where my office was located. A pin drop silence, following my arrival enveloped the entire floor. Walking to my office I took in faces of every employee on my way, looking if any of them was missing or wasn't doing its work sincerely.
I entered my office which was already cleaned having no trace of dirt. Sitting down in my chair I called manager on intercom demanding his presence in my office. A few seconds later, he came inside asking for the work he was called for.
I switched on my laptop to start my work, proceeding from emails which I had to do myself as my secretary didn't show up in time. "Fire two employees named Shree Verma and Ahana Sharma. Send their termination letters to them and tell them company doesn't need their late self anymore." I ordered as those two employees weren't here till now.
The look on manager's face told that he wanted to interrupt me but one look from me told him that I was not complete yet. "Also find a replacement for Miss Verma ASAP and get me my today's schedule fast. Hurry up."
"But sir-" He started.
"Do you want me to add your name also, in that list of terminated employees?"
"No sir."
"Then do as I say first. Come thereafter if there is any work."
My temper rose with every syllable leaving my mouth. Reason? None.
