Chapter 3—Beginning anew

In the last three months they were bliss, to an extent. I had my fifteenth birthday, the best I've had since what happened to my mother, and I got to meet the pack, and his parents, well more like his father and step-mom, and they were nice to me but they seemed to want to know when we were going to have pups to further the line of succession for Alpha. I was lucky to have Nicki around because I wouldn't have known the answer to that.

Nicki also had some of the teachers from the high school come to the house to make sure that I would be ready for school this fall. When they found out that I already knew everything that they were testing me on, they started to teach me other things that I should know. I also had to make sure that I was healthy enough to be able to be in the normal zone for everything. When I passed all of my tests there was a little hitch in getting into the school. I needed parents, which I didn't have. Well at least the school knew that I didn't have. So when Nicki found out about that little hitch, he found out a way for me to be adopted by a family, that lived in the pack house, and found a way for me to go to school. He paid off a lot of people to forge the paperwork and then the files were pushed through faster than normal.

We have had a few arguments, mostly pertaining to me not wanting to go to school and wanting to be home schooled. I still don't know if I will be able to do that, but I have been trying to convince him.

Walking into the living room of the pack house I was met with a shirtless Austin covered in sweat playing a video game with some of the younger boys, who were also not wearing shirts. "I would say that there is nothing wrong with this picture, but I would be lying." All six heads snapped towards me and that's when I noticed that they all had their wolves towards the surface. Before they could attack me for interrupting their little sweaty dude party, a loud growl came from behind me and made them all cower away from where I was standing.

Soon the feeling of, muscular, arms being wrapped around my waist were present and I leaned back against the rock hard chest that I have come accustomed too. "You have better have an explanation as to why you were about to attack your Luna..." when no one answered I could feel all of his muscles tighten and flex. "Well since no one wants to speak I guess that you all get to go out and go through all of your training regimes that are left for this week today, and the same things for the remainder of the week." They all groaned because they all had extra work on all of their training and it all got lengthened from two hours a day to six. I knew that they were not happy about that but there was nothing that I could do for them because they caused this themselves.

I had learned that these past few months that I couldn't help everyone and that I was not supposed to get them out of trouble because that tends to cause more problems than not. They all moved out of the room and went into the back yard to begin their training as I stood were I was encased in Nicki's warm arms.

"So do you want to tell me what that was about?" I just shrugged. "Or do you want to get into another fight about whether or not to home school you or not. Because I have already made my decision and you can't change that." Spinning around in his arms I was able to be face to face with my Mate. I gave him a small smile to make him loosen his hold on me and his amber eyes to shine with curiosity. "What are you-" He got cut off as I weaved myself out of his arms and bolted up the stairs. He was close behind and I knew that he wasn't happy that I was running away from him.

Getting into our room I was able to get there before him, but I left the door opened. Grabbing one of the pillows on the bed I was able to hide it behind my back right before he entered and closed the door behind him. He looked furious and a little bit excited from the chase. "My little Light what are you thinking of doing?" I gave him my best smile and slightly shrugged my shoulders. When he stalked towards me I just stayed perfectly still as he got closer. When the only thing that was between me and him was the bed, he easily jumped up on it and walked towards me. Why does everything he does make him even more attractive? I thought. No matter what it was he always looked attractive because of what he was doing.

"Whatever do you mean?" Batting my eyes a little I watched as he crouched in front of me on the bed, and cupped my face.

"You want something and I can read it on your face." His thumb ran over my cheek and then went to my bottom lip. I let out a short huff and took the intuitive to just ask. What's wrong with the thirty-sixth time with asking him?

"Fine, but don't get mad....again." The last word I barely mumbled. His hand moved down to my waist and then behind me grabbing the pillow and throwing it against the glass doors leading to the balcony before his hand returned and he nodded for me to continue. "There is a benefit for me to be home schooled."

"And what would that be?"

"I'd get to be around you all the time, and you could help with anything that I didn't get. Wouldn't you like that?" I was waiting for him to respond but when he didn't I was beginning to feel rejected. Knowing that it was too good to be true I watched as he got up and walked out of the room without another look. Flopping onto my back I felt like crying. Knowing that that was irrational I tried not to, but it was too late.

Within ten minutes I was muffling my cries into the pillow, which Nicki sleeps on, why would I use mine, which was against the glass doors, and trying to make myself stop. I didn't hear anything. I didn't hear the door open, the footsteps towards the bed, the bed dip to compensate for a heavy weight, or the sigh. What I did feel though was a hand rubbing down my back as he was comforting me. "What did I do now?" I could feel the irritation, towards himself, as he asked me. "Light...Light...Leighton speak to me please..." when I still didn't respond he turned me towards him and into his arms. With my head on his shoulder I was beginning to relax and clam down.

"Why did you leave? Was that a really bad idea? I-"

He cut me off. "Was that why you were crying?" I nodded. "I went to talk to the tutors that I brought here and asked them what they thought about you being home schooled with me and they thought that it would be a good idea. Also there will be some problems with the older people of the pack. They will think that the future Luna should go to school and bond with the pack, but I would rather have you with me here instead of there. I'm glad that you could talk me into it. Took you long enough." I pulled back and furrowed my brows. It took me a bit to understand the meaning that was in his eyes, when I did I smacked him.

"You were already thinking of that, but you wanted me to come to that conclusion already didn't you!" He laughed and nodded. "You are the definition of a meanie head!"

"But I'm your meanie head." He laughed and kissed my cheek. "This was your first lesson for becoming a Luna. There will be others. I'm surprised that you got it this fast. It took my step-mother ten months to get to the same solution. I'm glad that your smarter." He pulled me back into his arms without another word. We sat in silence.

This is me beginning anew. I just hope that the rest of the time I'm here it is smooth.
