LISA'S POV
I'm always impressed with the places my parents choose as meeting places. From the atypical restaurant to an onerous one for a piece of steak that isn't even cooked as I ask, my parents could be guides for every country they went to because of the time they take to do research. So this Italian restaurant where we served tagliatelle with truffle and parmesan cheese and whose presentation of the dish made your mouth water didn't look like an Italian restaurant at all. Without wanting to be in the clichés but the place with its clandestine and romantic allure did not give this feeling of being in the country. I probably would have guessed French gastronomy with those haystacks at the entrance of the restaurant. Old picture frames hung on rusty walls and materials, a worn ladder lying on the ground, it felt like being in a stable. You could see the discrepancy between the mood of the place and the dishes they served, but I completely supported the concept.
I was actually thankful to be here because even though it was only for a few minutes, I was able to focus on something other than Jennie.
Jennie.
Every minute that went by, I was convinced that I was going crazy but in a way that a crazy person should be locked up in a white room away from the outside world. I had quit my job - which I had a hunch my parents found out about and that's why my presence was required today - I had lost track of time, I went from Lisa Manoban, the hottest dentist in town to this caveman.
I sighed playing with the piece of lemon used to decorate my Limoncello. I pitied the waiter who had already come to the table several times asking me if I didn't need other things. My parents could be the sweetest and nicest but they were unable to be on time. It was quite understandable with their job but it was less so when I was young. Sometimes I feel guilty for blaming them for the lack of involvement as a parent during my childhood. But we'll say that the arrival of Jinyoung quickly made up for the grief that a 6-year-old child had.
Soon after, I saw two imposing and confident figures passing the entrance where the boy who was welcoming pointed to the table where I was sitting. There was nothing good on their faces. I rarely witnessed my parents when they were upset or angry or disappointed about something, so I had reason to be nervous seeing them like that.
My father, a gentleman that he was, pulled out the chair for my mother to sit down before he sat down next to her. I appreciated these small gestures that had been maintained for years. It was one of the few times I was convinced that love was worth it.
"When were you going to tell us you'd left the clinic?" my father gave me an accusing look crossing his fingers on the table where the waiter came to drop off some appetizers. As for my mother, her face was no warmer than that of my father.
"I'm sorry I didn't discuss this with you sooner. I have my reasons why I left the job, but if you are worried that I'm going to foll around, don't worry. I just need a little more time to figure some things out before I start to do new things," I explained as best I could.
My parents looked at me with an indescribable look but soon sadness appeared on both their faces causing confusion in me. My mother sighed before looking at my father and caressed his arm as if to reassure him. Then she reached out her hand to grab mine and squeezed very hard.
"We know your reasons, but whatever it is, it has to stop honey,"
This magnificent hotel with more than 200 rooms and 8 elevators was the definition of the palace. After what I could read at the entrance, the place included sports halls, two swimming pools located on two different floors, a classy music room where guests could come and relax with a small glass of wine. In all my life, I have never seen such a place although I could afford to spend some time there. However, I never felt like taking a sum of money for this kind of thing because I would feel out of my mind.
