a few hours later, i was finished. i had gotten done way earlier than i normally did, so i decided to go home and surprise ishi with a date. we hadn't talked much for the last few days and i missed her.
before doing so, i had to pick up the manuscript of a new author we were sponsoring, and my assistant forgot to give it to me before leaving, so i took a taxi to his house and rang the doorbell.
i was going to send a text saying i was coming over and all, but was in a rush and his house was nearby anyway.
'his doorbell is broken for plot convenience, right i forgot.' my phone was already in my hand and my finger hovered over his number when i happened to glance in the window.
'what?'
i had seen something. a white blouse with a blue floral design that was so familiar it made my heart ache. i had seen her leave in it this morning. but...that could be anybody's.
my nose slightly stung as my eyes got caught on an underwear set i saw quite frequently. 'i refuse to cry.' my chest tightened as i pushed open the unlocked door silently.
i began to hear voices, voices i knew too well for this situation not to hurt. i pushed any ounce of sadness that had remained on my face from it as i navigated over the clothing items strewn about in my assistant's living room. some of his. some of my fiance's.
i only glanced into his bedroom before silently padding back outside and to my waiting taxi. the image of her naturally tan skin gripped in his hands. her chocolate brown eyes directed to the ceiling in ecstasy. it made me bitter.
but i didn't cry. i was so proud that i didn't cry. my feet found their way to the taxi and i once again found myself numbly directing him to tooru's house.
