Kirstie:

When I get home I find Avi on the sofa, he says the girls are asleep upstairs so I head up to check on them. I actually find them awake cuddling each other, both girls are crying. I gently tap on the door and they look up, "hey girlies" I say gently. Taylor gives me a tiny smile and holds her hand out to me, I go over to her and sit on the bed with them. "Can we tell you our story?" Taylor asks me softly, I smile "of course you can sweetheart" I chuckle.

"Me and Charlotte were born on the 25th of March, our parents immediately had problems with us. They loved me, they doted on me. But they hated Charlotte, they couldn't stand her. They said we were two completely different people, when we got older they described me as their perfect daughter. I was the one who learnt to walk first and learnt to talk first, Charlotte developed a lot slower than I did and it angered my parents. They wanted her to be like me, my dad would inject Charlotte with stuff and her screams are something I'll never forget, my dad would strap Charlotte to a table and inject her and do other things that I don't want to talk about. He said he was playing doctors with her and what he did would make Charlotte better but it just made her poorly, she would get headaches and her eyes would go cloudy. She struggled co-ordinating her hands and she always ran a fever and didn't feel good, I realised my dad was poisoning her. I ran away with Charlotte the day before our second birthday, I couldn't risk her getting hurt anymore. I hated the way my family loved me, I wish they had just hated me like Charlotte" Taylor sobs.

I pull both girls close to me and they snuggle into me, I want to give them the life they deserve. A carefree life, a three year old shouldn't have to be telling me all of this. That she couldn't stand the screams of her sister, that she wished her parents hated her. Taylor snuffles into my shirt and I know Charlotte is crying, I kiss the tops of their heads. "I love you girls so much" I whisper, that's when it hits me. I want to adopt them, I want to show them how perfect they are. I grab my phone whilst the girls snuggle into me.

Kirstie: hey boys come around when you're done at the clinic! I have an announcement.

Avi: do you want me to leave and come back? 😂

Kirstie: ha ha 😑

Mitch: I really hope this is what I think it is xx

Kirstie: u will see when u get here!

Mitch: not fair! I have to wait for Scott!

Kirstie: I'm not saying until you get here!

Kevin: I'm on my way now 😊

I smile, I'm so excited. I stay cuddling with the girls until I hear the front door open, it must be Kevin. I pick up both girls and carry them downstairs, Kevin and Avi are on the sofa chatting. I smile and sit with them, the girls stay on my lap and just sit there silently. They are holding each others hands and their eyes keep moving, when Taylor's move Charlotte moves hers in response. I realise they've learnt to communicate with their eyes, I chuckle to myself when I hear Scömiche pull up. They come running in and sit on the sofa with us.

"Okay I called you guys here for something very special. It involves these two little angels here and it's a pretty big change" I explain. Taylor and Charlotte look up at me and I smile "I want to adopt you girls" I explain, they both look confused and I chuckle. "I want to be your new mommy" I say gently, Taylor's face lights up like a christmas tree and Charlotte bursts into tears. I smile and put my arms around both of them, I'm crying too. I'm excited to have these girls, I really want to decorate the room they stay in now and I can get them toys and things. I do need to call my lawyer now though to arrange the adoption, I have a feeling we might have a struggle because of how little they are. I leave the girls with the boys and go to phone my lawyer.

Lawyer: hello Ms Maldonado, how can I help you?

Kirstie: hi I'd like to arrange some adoption papers for two twins.

Lawyer: okay, names?

Kirstie: Taylor Marrianne Lewis and Charlotte Adelaide Lewis.

Lawyer: the Lewis twins? Ms Maldonado I can't arrange adoption papers for those girls.

Kirstie: why not?

Lawyer: those two girls have been reported missing for nearly two years. Their parents are looking for them.

Kirstie: that's not possible! They ran away from their parents, their father nearly killed Charlotte!

Lawyer: I'm going to arrange a court date for you, you will have to face their parents. If what you say is true you will have full custody of both girls.

Kirstie: will the girls have to talk?

Lawyer: certainly. It won't be hard for them, the judge will be very gentle.

Kirstie: okay, will you let me know the court date?

Lawyer: if it all goes well it'll be tomorrow

Kirstie: okay thank you for your time.

I turn the phone off and sigh, this is going to be a lot harder than I expected. I go back into the lounge and collapse onto the sofa, Taylor looks concerned. She crawls over and cups my face in her tiny hands, she leans her forehead against mine. "We have to see them don't we?" She whispers, I brush my hand against her cheek. "I'm so sorry baby, apparently they reported you missing. No one knows they abused Charlotte" I whisper. Taylor sucks her breath inwards "what if they let them take me and not Charlotte?" She whispers tearfully, I brush her tears away "if they were a danger to Charlotte we can't say they won't be a danger to you baby girl" I whisper. Taylor smiles and I give her a kiss, she gets down from me and turns to Charlotte. She gently picks up Charlotte's hands and uses their eye communication to tell Charlotte, I can tell when she tells Charlotte because she screams and claps her hands over her mouth. Her eyes are wide and frantic and tears are spilling down her cheeks, Taylor puts her arms around Charlotte's shaking body. Charlotte clings to her and sobs into her shoulder, I take a deep breath. Charlotte is going to have to be brave tomorrow...
