Request: reader and Chris are high school sweethearts but he cheats on her. Years later he finds her and admits he still loves her

(There's a decent bit of dialogue in this...oops)

Your POV- 1999

You thought life after graduating high school would be perfect. But within a week after graduation, you totaled your car, lost your job, and, worst of all, your boyfriend cheated on you.

"Baby, please... It was one kiss.. I didn't mean to," Chris pleads.

"I can't believe you would do this, Chris," you cry. Without another thought, you slid the diamond ring off your left hand and put it in Chris's hand. "I can't do this, I'm sorry."

Chris's POV- 2019

The premiere for Avengers: Endgame just ended. I finally get home and throw myself on the couch and flip on the TV.

"Help me welcome (y/n) (l/n)!" Jimmy Fallon's voice comes from the speakers.

I almost couldn't believe my eyes.

"Oh my god.." I mumble.

She still looks just like she did 20 years ago. I miss her.

"So, Miss (l/n)... Tell us a little about your debut film."

She laughs a little before answering. "It's funny, really. A little back story first. My good friend from college is the director. He wanted to make a film following the life of a woman whose life just fell apart, no matter what she tried. And he was like 'you'd be perfect for this role'!"

Jimmy laughs. "You're kidding!"

"Oh, I wish I was! But I read the script, and I fell in love. I couldn't deny the opportunity to do a film..."

"So, I've got to ask..." Jimmy says, and I could tell (y/n) held her breath for a second in fear. "You dated a very famous guy back in high school, right?"

She sighs. "I did... I hope he doesn't mind me talking about this..."

I really didn't, to be honest. I'd love to call her mind again.

"But I used to date Chris Evans. We were high school sweethearts. Well, almost. But I don't think I should go into detail on what happened between us. That was a long time ago, and I'm over it now." She pauses for a few moments. "God, I hope he doesn't see this!"

I chuckle a little bit. She hasn't changed a bit. I never thought I could miss her as much as i do.

She really was the light in my life. My safe place. Home.

I feel a pit form in my stomach and chest. And then it hits me. I still love her.

Your POV- 2020

You're walking around the grocery store, trying to find everything on your list.

"Oh my god... (y/n)?"

You look up to see the one and only Chris Evans standing in front of you.

"Chris, wow, hi!"

He walks a little closer to you.

"How have you been?"

"Good, busy..." you say. "And you?"

"Good, yeah... Listen, I'm going to be honest. You are going to hate me for doing this here... But I've been trying to track you down for a year now. And you have been nowhere to be found..." he says.

You tilt your head in confusion. "What are you going on about?"

Chris reaches into his pocket and pulls something out. A ring.

"Oh my god."

"I never got rid of it... I always hoped I'd get you back. I have loved you for over 20 years now, (y/n). And I've never stopped. You probably still hate me. But I'm willing to wait for you. Whatever it takes."

You sigh. "Let me check out and you can come over. Maybe we can talk..."

Chris nods and follows you to the checkout.

On the entire drive home, you keep repeating to yourself how crazy all of this is. You can't believe he'd track you down just to tell you that he still loves you. Maybe he still does. Maybe this is what was meant to be. Maybe you still love him, too.

Chris parks beside your car and offers to help bring your groceries inside. You gladly accept and lead him to your front door.

"Just set them on the counter, I'll put things away later. You want some coffee?" You ask.

"Oh, no, I'm fine..." he says. "I'm sorry for all of this.. I know this is insane. You probably don't want me here."

"I wouldn't have invited you if I didn't want you here, Christopher. I'm glad we found each other again. I've missed you."

The two of you go into your living area and sit on the couch.

"God, this makes me feel like a teenager again."

"I don't even know where to begin, (y/n)." Chris runs his fingers through his hair. "Well, i wanted to say I'm sorry for how I treated you all those years ago."

"It's fine, Chris... I forgave you a long time ago. We were young and stupid. I should've let you explain... But after I gave you that ring, I felt free. But now I regret everything."

"Do you think you can give me another chance?"

"I think I can manage that..."

This was a lot longer than I thought i was gonna make it. But I hope you like it! 💕

Also, I'm trying to get through all the requests that you've all given me. So please be patient while I get them finished.
