Chapter 23

Timeskip 1 year

The White Masks had been taken down and we continued to take contracts, but in Germany only. We had all had enough of the world so we stayed in Germany. Monika and I had minor fights every so often, but it was different than normal couples; our fights grew us closer and they eventually faded out of existence entirely. We bought a house and got moved in the same week. Monika sat me down and showed me a positive pregnancy test. I hugged her and we waited for the day to come.

Timeskip 16 years

Elias: Dad, can I go to my girlfriend's?

Versuchen: Her parents are insane, though. Why doesn't she come here?

Elias: Can she?

Versuchen: Yeah.

Elias's girlfriend was a nice girl and very respectful whether it was because of who Elias's parents were, I don't know.

Elias POV

Hope: Your parents are scary.

Elias: They just seem like it. All their combat experience did that.

Unlike other parents, mine allowed me to close the goddamn door to my bedroom.

Hope: We had homework, didn't we?

Elias: Yeah. Algebra.

Hope: Fuck.

Elias: Do you want help on it?

Hope: I want you to help me. Don't do it for me.

Hope and I did her homework and got called downstairs for dinner.

Dad annoyed mom to the point where she walked him on the head and he thought it was funny which didn't make her any happier about it.

Elias: Dad, really? Is that necessary?

Dad: Yes.

Mom: It is not necessary in any universe.

Hope: It's funny.

Dad: Finally, someone has a sense of humor.

After eating, Hope and I went to the woods behind our suburban house and sat at the pond.

Hope: I like your house. It's an escape from my parents.

Elias: Hey, you turn 18 in 6 months. You can leave then.

Hope: Elias, I'm not going to be able to stay there for another 6 months. I had to sneak out tonight.

Elias: I'm sure my parents would let you stay here if you need.

Hope: I might need to take that offer.

Elias: Ask my dad. He's more understanding about things.

Hope: Why?

Elias: It's a long story that I don't know he would want me to tell.

Hope: Alright.

I got permission from my dad for Hope to stay the night for however long she needed and also to tell her the story.

Elias: My dad's father that he first introduced my mom to wasn't his biological father. His real father was murdered by the White Masks when they still existed. That's why he's more understanding about family issues.

Hope was one of the only people to know the story and she didn't take it lightly. We all watched a movie and Hope had fallen asleep on my shoulder by the end of it.

Dad: This is the part where you don't move and sleep there.

Monika POV

Hope was a great girl and she just had some bad parents so we were fine with her staying with us. Y/N and I went to our room so Elias could sleep where he was with Hope and I woke up the next morning to the sun blinding me through the window. Y/N was up and tossed his uniform on. I had left Sicherheit because of a child and I was getting older. Y/N could still do everything just fine so he was still the acting director of Sicherheit. I stood up and kissed Y/N.

Monika: Be careful.

Y/N: I will be. Have a good day.

Elias POV

Dad came downstairs already in his uniform with his gun in hand and waved me goodbye.

Dad: See you tonight.

Elias: Bye, dad.

Dad didn't return that night, but I didn't worry since some contracts had taken a longer amount of time than expected before. The next morning was devastating when the news came on. All of Sicherheit's active Operators were killed in an ambush last night. I went to my room and broke down there. Hope was with me and I wouldn't talk to my mom or let her in for hours. Hope got me calmed down and I left my room. My mom wasn't doing much better and we comforted each other. It hit night time and my mom was downstairs reading, Hope went home, so I took my opportunity. I snuck into my dad's gun safe and took my mom's pistol out.

Monika POV

I heard my P12 fire upstairs and quickly ran up to see Elias on the floor with the pistol laying nearby. I couldn't live with my family being dead so I picked the pistol up.
