A few weeks had passed since going to the apartment, and I wasn't ready to go back just yet.

"Shall I take care of the apartment for you, Adeline?" Zain handed me a cup of tea.

I was standing in front of my bedroom window, staring down to the gardens.

"Please," I took a sip of the tea Zain brewed for me. "I don't think I'm going to be ready any time soon."

Zain bowed. "I'll take care of the apartment as soon as possible."

"Thank you, Zain." I sat at the table next to the window, setting down the empty tea cup.

"It's my pleasure," He poured me a second cup of tea. "When you are ready to go through the contents from the apartment. Please let me know."

"I will," I faintly smiled.

After that day, my mother came to visit me almost every day. She really wanted us to have some form of a relationship, but I honestly didn't know how to feel about my mother.

Especially, it was clear that she hadn't really wanted me because I was the heir to the throne of all six kingdoms.

My mother and I were having tea in the gardens one afternoon.

"Why did you treat me the way you did after you found out that I was the heir to the throne of all six kingdoms?" I blurted out when we had fallen into silence.

Her eyes saddened. "I was young when I had you and Alexsandrina." She looked down at her cup of tea, avoiding to look into my eyes. "I guess you could say I was afraid that— that I'd lose you somehow. And I was also jealous...that I wasn't the heir to the throne of all six kingdoms."

"That didn't make it right for you to push me aside," I voiced out my opinion as I looked at my mother. "Although, I loved every moment I had with grandmother. There were times where I— I wished that I knew you. That I was with you."

Yes, I never really spoke about this to anyone before. Not even to my grandmother.

I was grateful to have been raised by my grandmother, and I loved every moment of it. But...deep down, I still wished that I was with my mother— with my sister, even— and had grown with them.

So, to hear that my mother was afraid to lose me because of my title— and that she had been jealous of me— it broke my heart.

My mother pushed her chair closer to me then.

"I'm sorry that I pushed you away, Adeline," She dabbed away the tears from her eyes with her napkin. "When my mother, your grandmother, took you away with her— I regretted the day I pushed you away. Sometimes, I too wish that it had all been different. That you would have grown up with your twin sister— with me, your mother."

"Too bad we can't change the past," I lightly teased.

She laughed a little at that. "Oh what I would do to go back in time," She agreed.

"Well, we have the future ahead of us," I bit my bottom lip. "I would love to have you around, mom."

It felt weird saying that word.

All my life, I avoided speaking about my mother whenever someone would ask why my grandmother was raising me.

I never had anything to say except for what my grandmother had told me.

That my mother hadn't wanted me.

Tears were running down my mother's face.

"I'm so glad that we can restart things," Gently, she pulled me into a hug.

"Me too," I said as I hugged her back.

My relationship between my mother was better than I had expected. Especially since my relationship with my twin sister was anything but good.

Alexsandrina and I had started off on the wrong foot— and it was because she had hated me from the beginning.

After my mother and I had tea, we walked to the front entrance of the Palace together.

"Alexsandrina," I started as I looked into my mothers eyes. I hadn't noticed this before, but my mother had the same exact eye color as my grandmother.

"What about Alexsandrina?" My mother said cautiously as we stopped in front of the entrance of the Palace.

"She doesn't like me," I said, looking down at my feet. "And I don't really know why."

My mother laughed. "Alexsandrina," She let out a sigh. "Well...she was used to being at the center of attention and— although she hadn't shown it— she liked being the heir to the throne of all six kingdoms. The attention it brought her, I mean," My mother added quickly.

"So she is jealous of me," My shoulders slouched.

"Oh, Adeline," My mother put a hand on my shoulder. "She's most likely jealous that you took all of the attention away from her, but she'll get over it. Eventually. Just give her some time. She'll come around."

I pursed my lips together, nodding.

"Thank you for coming by, mom." I quickly added the "mom" at the end. That was something that I would have to get used to. Calling my mother "mom".

She smiled, tucking a strand of my hair behind my ear.

"Your grandmother did well raising you," She said as sadness filled her words.

I blushed when she said that.

"See you soon," I hugged her goodbye.

My mother kissed my cheek and hugged me back, "See you soon."
