Chapter 24

For tonight's Ball, I chose to wear a beautiful deep blue ball gown with an empire waist and off the shoulder sleeves.

The skirts of the dress elegantly flared out and into a long train behind me.

Emma had put my hair into a high bun, which in this dress had made me look all the more regal.

At the end of the grand staircase, Edward was there waiting for me.

Edward turned around as I made my way down the staircase.

"You look beautiful, Adeline," He said as he took my hand in his white gloved hand.

"Thank you," I blushed. "You don't look bad yourself."

Edward was wearing his Royal Garments tonight. A blue suit jacket with a few of his medals on one of his collar, a white dress shirt underneath, and black dress pants and dress shoes. He had a sash over his suit jacket that was decorated with even more medals.

"What this old thing?" He teased as he cupped my cheek with his other gloved hand.

I smiled as he kissed me on the lips tenderly.

"I missed you these past few weeks," I said as we made our way to the Ballroom.

My heart pounded in my chest after I said that.

"Me too," He looked into my eyes as we entered the Ballroom. "These past few weeks had been very busy for me."

We stopped in front of a Steward, who had announced our arrival.

"Her Royal Highness, Lady Adeline Michel II. Accompanied with His Royal Highness, Crown Prince Edward Levaincois of Charles. As Her Royal Highness's Escort."

This Ball must have been an important one.

Everyone stopped what they were doing to watch us enter the Ballroom.

We made our way to the other Crown Princes.

"Lady Adeline," Prince Roberto bowed. "It's nice to see you again."

"Prince Roberto," I curtsied gracefully. "It's nice to see you again too— it's nice to see you all again."

Alexsandrina was standing next to Prince Keith. She was not happy to see me.

What was new? I thought as I tried to give her a kind friendly smile.

Her face twisted with even more hatred.

I inwardly sighed.

"May I have this dance, Adeline?" Edward asked, gracefully extending his hand out to me.

"Of course," I curtsied, putting my hand in his.

Dancing with Edward, it had always felt right.

My mind went back to the first Ball that I went to, at the Castle in Charles.

The night that had completely changed my life.

"What are you thinking about?" Edward asked gently as we danced.

"The first time we danced," I stared into his lavender eyes.

His eyes softened, "That feels like such a long time ago."

I gave him a solemn smile.

The few months that had passed. It honestly had felt like a whole year had passed rather than a few months.

Thankfully, for my sake, we didn't speak anymore while we danced.

Once the dance ended, Edward elegantly bowed while he took my hand in his.

He looked into my eyes as he gently, yet tenderly, kissed the back of my hand.

I curtsied deeply, bowing down my head slightly to hide my flustered face.

Author's Note:
So. I'm going to end this chapter here because it just feels right.

I actually finished this chapter a few weeks ago, but I thought I'd want to add a bit more.

Never mind, I'll just leave the chapter here.

I thought I'd want to add a little bit of 'drama', between Adeline and Alexsandrina, but I feel like this chapter— especially— should just revolve around Edward and Adeline.

I know that their story has been...slow, but I felt like the way that I've been writing their story...it just felt right...you know?

I do plan on having Adeline and Alexsandrina 'drama out', if that's a thing...lol...because I feel like we just need to address why Alexsandrina hates Adeline. Aside from the obvious reasons.

Whelp, until the next chapter :)
