Jungkook refused to talk to his mom all the way home and even throughout the night. He couldn't wrap his brain around the fact that his mom asked that question. The only person he has left. The only person he can rely on; asked when he was dying.
His dad walked out on them not too long after he got diagnosed. He considered Jungkook a waste of money since he would end up dying anyway, in his eyes. His mom didn't believe that. As long as Jungkook is breathing, she will fight for him.
Jungkook was confused. Did his mom want him to go ahead and just pass so she could be rid of the burden he leaves? Did she just want him to die? He didn't know and it made him distraught.
Needless to say, Jungkook didn't sleep that night, and he woke up and the first thing he got to really see was the toilet bowl. He dry heaved until he was able to make himself hurl. It hurt physically. His head was pounding and his throat hurt. He washed his face in the sink and continued with his morning routine.
When he finished, he went downstairs and grabbed his bag to leave but stopped when he noticed something on the counter. It was three bottles of pills and a sticky note.
'Kook,
Dr. Seong wants you to start taking these as soon as you wake up. I'm sure you are going to disagree and try not to take them, but they will help with your side effects. It will also try to slow down the development. Please take them, honey.
xoxo, mom.'
Jungkook groaned, he hated this. More medicine to take on top of his as-needed pills. He grabbed a bottle of water and the three pills along with a pain pill for his head, before popping them in his mouth a swallowing them with water.
He returned to his bag and left the house. He wasn't prepared to enter the school building but he had no choice. He entered his class as normal and sat in the back of the class waiting for the teacher.
When the teacher finally walked in to start the lesson, the boy in front of Jungkook turned around.
"Hey. Jungkook right? Can I borrow a pen? Mine ran out of ink." The boy said with an innocent smile. Jungkook wanted to refuse and just let the boy suffer but he decided against it.
Jungkook nodded and handed the boy a pen and he smiled. "Thanks! I'm Jimin by the way."
Jungkook nodded again with a small smile. He didn't know if he should take this as a befriending thing or just Jimin being nice. He wasn't too sure.
"You are known for not talking, which is fine! But I was wondering if you wanted to eat with my friends at lunch?" Jimin asked with a bright smile on his face.
Jungkook responded with big eyes and a slacked open mouth. "What? Why do you seem shocked? Have you never had friends before?"
Ouch. That hurt.
Jungkook nodded but made a small gesture with his thumb pointing over his shoulder behind him, hoping Jimin would understand. Thankfully, he did.
"Okay well. I guess it's time for you to make some new friends!" Jimin smiled again, but this time it was a big eye smile and he looked genuinely happy.
Jungkook gave a small nod and looked down at his paper. I hope this isn't too good to be true.

Lunch came around quicker than Jungkook had anticipated. Jimin exited the classroom before Jungkook, but he waited outside the door.
"C'mon, Jungkook!" Jimin called for him. Jungkook nodded and headed towards him. The two boys headed towards the cafeteria and just then Jungkook realized that he never ate in there before. He started getting really nervous that he would run into Daeshim or one of his buddies.
Jimin noticed this and nudged his arm. "Hey, don't worry. It's just a bunch of people."
Jungkook mentally laughed. Yeah, just a bunch of people. Right.
Jimin led him to a table that held four other people. "Guys! This is Jungkook! I offered him to sit at our table from now on." The boy said with a bright smile.
"Okay, yeah sure that works. The more the merrier." A boy from the table responded. He looked like he was a very rational, calming person. "So let's do introductions, yeah? I'm Namjoon to start." The boy, Namjoon, stated.
A boy next to him spoke up with a smile, "I'm Seokjin, but a lot of people just call me Jin."
"Hoseok! Nice to meet you Jungkook!" He held up a peace sign and gave a big smile as well.
"Yoongi." The boy stated. He doesn't look too friendly...
"Don't mind him," Jimin stated, pointing to Yoongi. "He is just grouchy."
Jungkook nodded and sat down beside Jimin. He fidgeted with his hands and had an anxious feeling in his stomach. He didn't like it. "So, Jungkook, what do you do for fun?" The boy he remembered to be Jin, spoke up.
Jungkook looked between Jimin and jin before he settled his eyes on the surface of the table. "Ah, right! I forgot to mention. Jungkook's mute." Jimin responded to the boy with a slight smile.
He always seems to have a smile on his face.
Jin nodded, "That's okay! Sorry, I didn't mean to upset you if I did."
Jungkook immediately picked his head up from the table waving his arms in front of him to let Jin know he didn't do anything wrong. He let out a slight laugh and nodded to Jungkook "Alright then."
Needless to say, this was the first day Jungkook actually enjoyed going to school.
