Walking down the hallways of Los Feliz High School has never been a happy moment for me. The only thing keeping me from banging my head against the lockers are my two best friends, Julie and Flynn, Julie being my younger sister.
"Hey, underachievers."
Julie and I turn from our lockers and grin. "Hey, disappointment," we say simultaneously.
Flynn sighs. "OK, I know you don't want me to ask, but have you two figured out what you're gonna do today?"
Julie speaks for the both of us. "We'll know in the moment. Won't we, Kam?" I nod in agreement.
"Really, guys? That's all you're giving me? Mrs. Harrison said this is y'alls last chance."
"We know."
"We was there," I finish.
"See you at the rally!" All of us turn to see Carrie standing there, handing out flyers.
Flynn scoffs. "Ugh. What is she handing out?"
"Desperation," I smirk.
She walks up to us with a sassy smile. "Here you go. My group's performing at the spirit rally tomorrow." She hands us a flyer. "I'm sure you guys have nothing better to do."
"Oh my gosh, Carrie. Thanks," Flynn smiles sarcastically.
With even more sarcasm, Carrie puts her hand on her chest. "Oh my gosh, Flynn. Don't bother coming!" I stare at her, grab the flyer from Flynn, and tear it in half. Carrie glares at me before walking away. Turning back to my group, I see my sister looking lovey dovey at Nick. Flynn notices too.
"Nick? Still? You know they're gonna get married and have a bunch of unholy babies."
Julie shies away. "Nick's a sweetheart."
"You'd actually have to talk to him to know that." Flynn points at me in agreement.
"And only one of them has to be a demon to make a demon baby." We all look over to Carrie. "Demon!" As soon as Carrie looks back at us, we turn to the lockers and laugh. Flynn points at our faces. "There's that smile. Now, let's go prove everybody wrong."

Nick finishes his performance as everyone claps.
"Nice job, Nick," Mrs. Harrison smiles. "Almost as impressive as your game against Glendale." The class laughs.
"Okay, we have two more performances." Squirming in my seat, I lower myself towards the floor."Julie?" I sigh in relief. Julie, however, slowly looks up and nervously walks towards the piano. After sitting down, Mrs. Harrison tells Julie to take her time. I give a thumbs up when she looks my way.
She touches the piano before hesitating and stands up. Flynn and I stand up with her.
"I'm sorry."
"Is this the part when we clap?"
"Watch it, Carrie." Flynn shoves by her. I do the same thing, except I pinch her arm as I pass. I hear a dramatic 'ouch' as we follow my sister.
"Wait, Karman! You still have to perform!"
