We go back down into the studio, Julie behind me as I hold the cross in front of us. "Are you still here..... whatever you are?" As we walk to the piano, I drop my hands to my sides. "I know we saw something. We're not crazy."
"Well, we're all a little crazy." Swiftly turning around, I hold up the cross and we both scream.
"Oh my God! Please stop screaming!" Julie stops while I jump forward.
"Go away Satan!" Our neighbor's dog starts to howl.
The one in the middle looks extremely offended. "Satan?" I start to stammer before Julie slaps my arm.
"Who are you, and what are you doing in our mom's studio?"
"Your mom's studio," the one in the middle questions. "This is our studio." As he starts to walk forward, I point the cross at him and follow him as he crosses over the piano. "Trust me, my ... the grand piano is new...and...and...and," he pauses to laugh. "My couch!" He jumps onto the couch and sighs happily. As he lifts up to look around, his face drops. "But that is definitely not my six-string. Can you guys give me just one second? Just.. give me a second. Thank you." I look at Julie with raised eyebrows.
"Jules, have we finally gone insane?" Before she can answer, the random boys start whispering louder.
"Maybe... maybe they are witches. I mean, come on. There are chairs floating from the ceiling."
The one with the hat looks at him as if he's grown two heads. "Okay, there is no such things as witches."
He raises his eyebrow. "You sure? I used to think there was no such things as ghosts."
"That's fair."
"Okay, so, we're going with witches?"
Hat dude slaps the floofy haired one. "No! We are not going with witches. They're just scared, okay? Let someone," he places his hand on his chest, "with a softer touch handle this." He claps as he walks towards us. "Why are you in our studio?"
Julie takes the cross from me and shoves it in his chest. "Oh my gosh! How did you do that?" I laugh, but cover my face as they all look at me.
"Clearly you're not understanding. They don't get it."
I raise my hand with a smile on my face. "I do." Julie looks at me in disapproval while the shaggy haired dude smiles at me. I put my hand and face down in embrassement.
"Okay, look. We're ghosts, all right? We're just three ghosts and we're really happy to be home. So, thank you for the flowers. They really brighten up the room."
"We're actually in a band called Sunset Curve."
"Tell your friends."
"Last night was supposed to be a really big night for us. It was gonna change our lives."
I smirk, "I think it already did." Julie starts to pace beside of me.
"This is freaking me out." She pulls out her phone. I look over her shoulder to see what she's doing. Smart move, sis.
The shaggy haired dude steps forward. "What is that? What are you doing?"
"It's my phone."
I slap her on the arm. "Stop talking to them. They aren't real. There's no such thing as cute ghosts."
The one who is dressed in all black smiles. "Oh, think we're cute?" I look at him weirdly as my sister continues to search up their little band.
"Who you calling," the taller one leans forward with a smile on his face.
"I'm Googling Sunset Swerve." They all get a offended look on their face.
"Sunset Curve!"
I look over at her phone. My face pales as I realize I've seen that exact picture before.
"There is a Sunset Curve. And you did die. But not last night."
"Twenty-five years ago," I finish.
"What? No. No, no, no. Th-Th-That's impossible. After we floated out of the ambulance, all we did was go to that weird, dark room where Alex cried."
"Well...," I'm guessing Alex, said with a high-pitched voice. "I don't think... I think we were all pretty upset."
"But that was just for like an hour. We just showed up here."
Julie sighs. "Look. I'm just telling you what my phone says. See? You died in 1995. When you were 17. It's now 2020."
"So... this is the future?"
"Wait. So...So, it has been twenty-five years? I have been crying for twenty-five years?! How is that possible?!"
"Well, you're a very emotional person."
"I am not!" He throws down his hands and looks at the one in all black.
As I start to giggle, we hear a voice that wasn't here before. "Thought you guys were afraid to come out here. You talking to your ghost friend? How does he look? Is he hideous?"
"Well, I wouldn't say-" I cut myself off when I see everyone looking at me.
Alex grins and turns to the black haired one. "He can see you."
"No, he can't."
"What?"
I step in, seeing as my sister can't lie to save herself. "What do you want?"
"Normal sisters, for starters. Stop being weird and come eat." As he walks away, Julie looks comflicted.
"He couldn't see you."
"Yeah, I mean, that's... usually how ghosts work." She sighs and stomps to the door.
"Look, I'm very sorry for what happened to you guys, but this isn't your studio anymore. You have to leave."
"But wait, we didn't get your name."
"It's Julie."
"Cool. I'm Luke. And this is-"
"Reggie," he smiles. "I'm Reggie. Hey."
"And-"
"Alex. How's it going?"
Luke throws his hands to them. "Ba-da."
"...Okay?" She walks away and to the house.
"Julie seems nice!"
"Did you miss the part where she kicked us out, or... Yes, okay."
I just stand there looking back and forth between them. Alex turns my way and jumps. "Holy-"
I sheepishly smile at him. "Sorry." Before they try to speak again, I step up. "Look, Julie... Julie is hard to get along with sometimes. And I know that we are both really, really sorry for what has happen to you guys. She's just had a rough day. You guys can stay here for as long as you want. It won't take long to convince her, I promise. Just... try to lay low and not cause too much noise. Okay? Thank you." I walk towards the door.
"Wait, hold on." I turn around and see Luke staring at me. "We didn't get your name either."
"Oh! Right, um. My name is Karman."
Luke smiles. "Karman... it's pretty."
I feel my face heat up. "Thank you," I whisper. Before I can embarrass myself anymore, I rush to the house.
