the boy got into the boat a stranger.  three months later he stepped off the dock and walked to his parents car.  the father was going back to doctoring, the mother back to the courts.  the old man was going back fishing, back to the place they had been all summer.  the man was going back to who he used to be and he still remains.  the boy was going back to not be who he left on the dock three months ago.  the boy walked forward and waited his turn to be somebody else's best memory.
